You must be a new Cal fan and don't know the feeling of a LOYAL Bear fan. I started going to Cal games when I was 10 years old and on through my years at Cal. I was in the class of 1959. Even through my time during Viet Nam, I was always a true fan of my Bears. Then, after graduating and ending my playing days, I went into teaching and coaching. I coached football for 49 years in both high school and college. It irks me that people who don't know about the inner workings of a football program want to immediately blame the Head Coach for losing when it is a myriad of things with talent being the main reason PERIOD!
appreciate these words, i might be a little hard on wilcox but agree with your overall statement and i will always be a loyal cal fan through it all :)
Geoff, let me clarify as I didn’t explain more of my devotion to the bears. My parents met in the Cal Band, I grew up going to games ever since I was 2 until I moved away for college. When I say “done” with Cal, I meant it half hearted. I will never turn my back on them, but I need to remind myself that we won’t be 10-2 every season - for now. Based on the locker room chant of the Bears touting Wilcox’s name, I saw that I was wrong. Watching our team celebrate the coach and each other makes me understand why I love Cal. I live in the PNW, but watching highlights from last night reminded me of my childhood going to games, watching cal go 1-10 and still loving the Bears. Thank you for your reminder, truly.
thank you; the strong support the players (both current, including JKS, and recruits) have for Wilcox has to be considered. He worked hard to bring in a number of highly regarded assistants this year and, yes, there was a mass exodus, but that may well have been due to uncertainty as to where the program was going. Now with Rivera in charge, I'm willing to give him support. If he believes JW should be kept, as opposed to starting over I'm willing to support that decision. Just have to keep JKS and use him to sell to other potential additions.
This is becoming a huge frustration. When he’s on the field, it seems obvious that he’s the fastest dude on the field, and yet he gets limited touches cuz he plays the same position as de Jesus. Pretty sure he was only targeted once yesterday and found the soft spot in the d and went for 39 yards. We flat out need some more creative play calling. Speed kills and our two fastest dudes need to be on the field.
From the first touch for Q, I was like where TF’s this guy been? Brings a level of speed we do not have, including JDJ, who while shifty is not a burner.
All the credit in the world to the players for gutting this one out. Now the big question is can we finally turn a corner under Wilcox and not follow up the rare big win with a soul crushing loss? A big game win and some momentum, positivity, and chance to get to 8 wins would’ve been unthinkable after the last couple weeks.
Great game! Harsin finally called a good offensive game as did the two defensive coordinators. They finally brought a lot of pressure on the Louisville QB and he had trouble finding his receivers.
I freely admit I did not see this coming. But the coaching staff finally dipped into the bench and gave JKS a seemingly bigger and better OL that protected him better while the defense rose to the occasion without Cade. It was definitely by far the best game of this season and if they can play like this for two more games it’s now conceivable this team just might go 8-5, something until this evening did not seem remotely possible. So let’s see what they can do against Stanford and SMU, and would that the Cal fan base would come out as big and as loud as the one supporting Louisville this evening. JKS is truly amazing, no doubt about it!
i love the “now we need to keep wilcox comments” as if the last 10 years of who he isn’t enough reason to see that he is at best mediocre! if we don’t convert on that one play do you guys change your mindset? his abysmal mismanagement of meaningful games (eg miami) will never change. he also lost half our offense last year.
to truly win the best route would be to go all in for tosh & we should all rally for that
100%. This was one failed play away from being another soul-crushing Wilcox loss. We can all appreciate his commitment to Cal and the fact that his players are still fighting for him, but let’s not forget that he has built pretty sizable personal wealth delivering extremely mediocre results over 9 years. Now, if we go blow the doors off furd, pull off a win against SMU, and there’s actually player retention when the portal opens, I guess maybe I could be convinced to let it ride another year and give him one more chance to keep building this thing. But it has been a slog to this point and the fanbase has been exceedingly patient.
Go bears! And I agree with you on Tosh. It’s not a popular opinion on these threads, but he’s been through Nick Saban’s character and reputation rebuilding program, and I would welcome him back if Ron thought he was the right guy.
If Cal can play like this game constantly, even if we lose, then it's not as bad. The problem is our offense, defense, and coaching completely disappeared this year from the SDSU game, even in games we've won.
Now, winning or losing by single digits were the norms of Wilcox teams in the past so today's win wasn't much of a progress. It's the typical Wilcox team. If we can continue to play and win like today, then that would be awesome. Will Wilcox be able to do that?
The minute I become “done” with the season the bears always have a reason for me to stick with them. Win or lose, GO BEARS!
A Wilcox masterpiece.
And just when fans become engaged again, he loses in a big fashion.
No, that was Rolovich and Harsin. Stop drinking the sauce.
Painful October continues 👻😢
dude it’s such a tease man — wilcox special. miami last year was fireable, if this keeps him i’m done with the program.

I know, right? It’s so crazy making. 💙🏈💛🐻 Go Bears!
No one messes with DeJesus!
Our Lord and Savior DeJesus
Praise DeJesus!
It was a great route.
The pride of the Central Valley!
Manteca Strong
He will pull the trigger until it goes click!
I was wrong about JDJ.
Contested catches in traffic may not be his thing, but kid can play.
I thought he was another Jeremiah Hawkins but he's turning into a poor man's Keenan Allen
I’ve never seen Wilcox this happy. You deserve it man
Bipolar Bears
So that’s 3 games this year (@ BC, v UNC, @ LOU) that have bucked the Wilcox 9-year trend, and 2 that haven’t.
I mean, I guess that’s progress???
Gotta keep JKS.
Agree. He's weathered a lot of turmoil but didn't run, and his players play like hell for him.
MORE TOUCHES FOR QUARON ADAMS PLEASE

Yes! Totally agree.

We'll beat bye next week
Wilcox is not a head coach

Yeah, QB Pressure and so many batted passes were refreshing and joy
Now that we're bowl eligible we can safely lose to Furd!
(Please don't take this seriously)
🤣🤣painful 2018 big game memories at home territory

man, that was so awesome! I found myself chanting Roll On You Bears during that last drive. It worked! Go Bears!

yeah well said, thanks for adding more / better context! either way: go bears!!

I am still ready to go to the next level. That was a classic Rolovich or Harsin call. Wilcox was cheerleading!!!
Rex Volcano nailed it (damn near exactly).
