Having watched Cal several times, and San Diego St. a couple of times, I have to wonder; did it not occur to anyone with Cal to try to talk Matt Bradley out of transferring? Making it worth his while to stay seems like would have helped.

I don't see any wins without Kelly. The article talks about scoring and rebounding, which obviously are important, but Kelly also forces the defense to respond to him, and if they double, he is outstanding at kicking out to a shooter, and Cal is pretty good at taking the shot or swinging the ball

Basically, besides Sheperd's one-on-one moves, Kelly accounts for nearly half of our offense, and we've been successful offensively for large parts of games because of it (e.g. shooting 50% in first half vs UCLA, and 50% for the game vs USC)

In addition, we have no depth in the post. Grant is our only reliable post defender, and Lars can only go against certain match ups. We would basically have to go small most of the game with Grant or Lars as our rim protector ... yikes!

Boy, how frustrating is it that with 15 scholarship players, we pretty much nonetheless have zero depth at PG AND in the post...

It's been a tough slog for Cal hoops heads. I do think Fox can probably earn himself another year with a strong finish but I'm also having trouble figuring out how we get better next year, at which point he'd almost certainly be toast.

I think the women's team is probably another year away from big leaps, but it sucks Covid is handicapping the team's development. I'm hoping we can find a way during this downtime to create more efficient offense with Curry's playmaking and spacing. 42% shooting in non-con play feels a bit low.

He should turn down the head coaching job at Duke. That would get him a four-year contract extension.

Exactly. Only at Cal is winning at, or near, the bottom of the checklist for HC contract extensions...

good to hear about Dyson. I was a Dyson fan despite his obvious weaknesses. He contributed to several wins, including locking down a PG who was shredding us, and had the ball in the closing seconds when they had the ball and down 1. Dyson locked him up and forced him to turn the ball over before even getting a shot off.
