Andre Kelly scored a team-high 11 points, while Ryan Betley and Lars Thiemann contributed 10 points each, but the California Golden Bears (5-7, 0-5 Pac-12) still found themselves edged out by the Washington State Cougars (9-1, 2-1 Pac-12), 71-60.
The Golden Bears' loss is the Cougars' first away-game win this season, and California remains winless in conference games.
California Head Coach Mark Fox missed his lead-scorer Matt Bradley, as the Golden Bears struggled on offense.
The home team was held to a dismal 34.5% shooting, as Bradley was on the sideline dressed in street clothes after injuring his left ankle last Saturday in the Oregon State game.
The Golden Bears' three-point specialists remained cold. Betley led the team scoring only two from downtown on six attempts, while Makale Foreman, Jalen Celestine and Grant Anticevich were limited to one three-pointer apiece.
Anticeveich, a game-time decision before the game, was back after an emergency appendectomy three weeks ago. The senior forward ended the night with nine points and one rebound before he fouled out with 3:09 left to go in the game. He had 20 minutes of game time.
Kelly also fouled out after stringing together four personal fouls in the second half alone. He left the game with 2:07 remaining to close out his stat sheet for the night, having shot five for eight and pulling down five boards in 28 minutes of play.
This season is going to go sideways in a hurry.
