If we can somehow pull it off tomorrow, then that’s at least something to sell the players on coming back next year (the reasons are pretty thin right now).
The frustrating thing is Madsen has clearly prioritized Wilkinson’s role and status in the O yet he’s still likely gonna be playing in the SEC next year for 7-figures.
I’ll still be a season ticket holder next year. Once a Bear, always a Bear. This is way better than what we had previous to Madsen. Given Madsen’s career, I am surprised that Cal has not been able to attract more, capable bigs. One per year is not enough.
The previous 6 years prior to Madsen were brutal. I grew up with Kevin Johnson/Kidd/Murray/Shareef/Ed Gray/Lamps/Jorge and the Bozeman, Braun, Monty and Cuonzo-coached teams where Tournament bids were plentiful.
Just want us to get back there - March Madness does not hit the same when you’re finishing bottom-1/3rd in conference for almost a decade. I think Madsen can get us there but unless we morph into an efficient machine like Loyola Chicago from a few years ago we need an uptick in talent, especially shooters.
It’s about getting 5 star players and how much money you have to “buy” players now. It’s really sad. Even the announcers (if one considers Boeheim an announcer - he was horrible) were saying that schools will come for Jeremiah, that Cal better open up their pocketbooks. It was really disgusting and very unprofessional by the ACCN. But this is new reality. Hope that JW stays.
I hope he does too. AKB, Absolutely no arguments from me on the insanity and disaster college sports has become. JW will have 7-figure offers from the SEC. It’s ridiculous.
Madsen's X's-and-O's coaching is not impressive at all. Our plays down the stretch is just to had nit to a guy and let him go to work. No wonder we're getting stuffed so much. Lucky we are even going to OT since VT threw the ball away at the end.
Same crap 2nd half of the year with the game on the line…Wilkinson completely out of control, forcing shots in traffic amongst the bigs. Georgia Tech, ND…over and over again.

Just saying he’s tried the exact same play in the the exact same situation in multiple games and the result has been identical each and every time: a forced, low percentage shot in traffic against much taller players. If THAT’S the play Madsen is consistently drawing up then we may have something to worry about because it is tough to win consistently with an offense reliant on ISO, 1-on-1 hero ball…

Most of college bball is like that now.
Not good teams, and not well coached teams. They get quality looks, not prayers.

He’s a freshman that can score 30 so the good far outweighs the bad.
