No chance Lloyd was coming to Cal. He was Mark Few's heir and could've done (and did do) better. Was Gates was a serious candidate with mutual interest?
I got the feeling we were less interested in Gates than we felt obligated to interview him. Gates had not yet taken the Clevo State position, and coming off of the Wyking experiment I can only assume previous head coaching experience was highly preferred.
