So the football team, which wasn’t very good, won more games than the basketball team.

Jim Knowlton is really destroying Cal Athletics.

He and Carol Christ are absolutely killing them. It’s sad to see.

Replying to my own comment here but I’m still just so frustrated with the state of Cal athletics. We all need to be quite verbal with the athletic department that we will not provide any more donations until Knowlton is removed.

We’re on fast path to being a middling MWC school while UCLA, UW, Michigan and other strong academic public schools thrive. It’s simply unacceptable.

Skip the Pac-12 tournament and just let the kids have a good time in Vegas.

As the 12 seed in the Pac-12 tournament, Cal will most likely go to Vegas to get blown out by the 5 seed. Instead of subjecting the players to that, let them have an actual good time. They've been through enough this year.

I feel gutted for Joel who played his heart out. But just too many holes in the defense, too many empty possessions. For a half we looked like a competent basketball team, and then slowly let them back in, and couldn't execute down the stretch.

Mark Fox forcing a 1950’s Indiana High School basketball-based half-court motion offense on a lightning quick, 6’2” PG that can be completely devastating with the ball in his hand in the open court is coaching malpractice.

Gene Hackman would've won more games, but that's not saying much, is it?

Well to be fair, he did have an elite scorer ;-)

FYI I can't post in DBB. Posting here hoping someone would notice. thx

Could you submit a list of possible AD candidates to him as well? Just in case this next hire doesn’t work out…

We need to bring in the guy who will refuse the job until the requirements for admission are ever so lightly eased up, and a firm construction start date (and it better be soon) for the practice facility is literally cast in concrete. If those 2 things don't happen, it won't matter who he brings in.

The heightened academic requirements are asinine.

Well, actually, I get it - Cal still wants to be a university first (as opposed to name-your-favorite-SEC-school not called Vandy), but they should stop pretending to be a major D-1 school in the revenue sports if they don't take the necessary steps:

1. relax the standards for uber-talented ballers, musicians, artists, etc and

2. assign them a remora to get them to class & tutor them up (can't go back to having class-skippers as we did back when things were good).

Unfair to the regular student, but there's a price for success, and the kid will have to want to succeed academically which still eliminates at least a smaller chunk of potential recruits, but you have to start somewhere if things are to change. We can't compete if we are at a disadvantage, plain & simple.

I would think plenty of people are interested in knowing if he plans to lead the search himself this go-round, or will he be utilizing a search firm?

Any candidate list is somewhat pointless if he’s employing a firm to do the work…if he’s leading the search though, a little different story.
