Mark Fox and the Cal Menβs Basketball team are participating in the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament, this upcoming Thanksgiving week.
The Bears will face Florida on Monday, November 22nd, followed by a matchup against either Ohio State or Seton hall on Wednesday, November 24th. All games will be televised on FS1 and will be played at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College.
Historically, the Bears are 2-0 against the Florida Gators winning the first matchup at the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 27th, 1986, and the second in the Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska on November 25th, 1988.
The Bears could potentially face Seton Hall, in a rematch from the Pearl Harbor Invitational back in 2016. The Bears lost 60-57, despite 22 points from Jabari Bird and 12 points from Charlie Moore. The final potential matchup against Ohio State, could have former Cal wing Justice Sueing facing against his former team.
Could we be any less excited about the new season? I don't think I've been this Meh about Cal Basketball ever. Even when we had the debacle of Wyking, we had more talent to watch fumble around. What a bummer. I want to like Fox, I really do, yet the failure to recruit cannot be overcome with X's and O's or player character. I like the players we have personally in a non-personal way, and they are Bears, but to know we can't compete sure makes it hard to get excited. And I'm the sunshine pumper around my family.
