A conference win! Against a decent team to boot.

This was one that was a possibility. Buffs are mediocre away from Boulder….hot shooting & Joel Brown’s best day got it done!!!

Definitely needs to go! Was at the game. Besides the epic (almost total) collapse — up 21 with 6+ minutes to go — fox’s body language (and verbal language) are horrible.

Team is up big and he’s stomping his feet, yelling at the players… while they’re running his non-existent offense.

Bob, tonight’s game is what they call an outlier.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlier

Drawing conclusions on the basis of this one performance is foolish. You should know better.

Not a number exclusively. But also the “how”. As someone noted, we had crazy shooting percentages today. 60 overall, 50 from 3?. And a lot of the 3s were desperation ones late in the (always) shot clock that amazingly went in. Today was an outlier.

Team’s O is guys standing around. No movement. No picks. Worse than late-Braun-era offense.

Can’t he watch film of the team across the bay and steal some of the movement? Dubs are playing rooks and 2-ways now, but still playing with good motion (mostly).

Can’t have today’s stats following those from UT game. Today was luck, not the system.

Also, during starting lineup intros, the nearest recruit was Chicago. Really can’t get anyone local (or even CA)?

Btw, super impressed with Grant Newell. Double-double for a freshman. How long til he hits the portal?

I’m on my phone, so limited typing dexterity. But two more thoughts:

1. Fox just seems like a dick. I’d hate to play for him. I didn’t see anything supportive from him to the players. During several TO, he wasn’t even in the circle.

Your 1-win team is up big. Enjoy yourself! Be happy with your players. (Again, learn something from the team across the bay.)

2. I’m interested in the alternative timeline where we blow the full 21-pt lead. Does Fox put the lack of press-breaking on himself? Or throw the kids under the bus? My friend and I agreed that it’d likely be the latter. (But glad in our timeline the Bears won!)

Yes, he should absolutely be fired, Bob.

Fox may have earned the right to not be fired before the next game but that's it.

Hey, I love a team’s chances to win basketball games when they shoot nearly 60% from the field, 54% from 3…then again, despite all that, they still almost coughed it up.

Glad the kids got a win, but the manner in which they got it is not sustainable.

Expand full comment

Oh that ending was uuuuuuugly. But like I said before, we need an extremely atypical shooting day in the positive direction and our opponent needs an off day. Glad everything aligned and we stole one but this maybe changes our ceiling from 1 win to 4.

Really glad they got Dejuan Clayton back…he’s a real game changer…yikes.

But good win. Wins tend to happen when you shoot 60% from the field, 50% from 3!

Is Sonny the whole package, now?

I mean where was this kind of defense when he was with us? Jeez! Manhandling Michigan's line?

Granted, of course, TCU is only guaranteed a finish as number 2...

And, of course, that means it's not a reputable academic institution, right, Christ? Academia wannabes?

All that being said, TCU D, like with us, gave up an uncomfortable amount of points all year.

This game followed the same pattern of bend and nearly break.

Keep in mind, only a fraction of the players in the portal are going to want to come to Cal.

Watching this game and TCU end almost simultaneously was wild.

But fantastic upset for our Bears! Congratulations!

It has been a tire fire of a basketball season. We need lots of changes. But ending 2022 with an emphatic win makes me feel good.

Newell has a double double.

That's an In-N-Out number 1.

Don't ask me how I know that or the Berkeley Vegan Police will be on me.

Cal could win this game.

Could is exactly right. This ending is completely ridiculous. No basketball IQ whatsoever in this position.

Clayton with a horrible turnover late…dude’s 30 years old, he should know better.
