Despite significant cold spells in both halves and digging out of double digit deficits a couple times somehow we found ourselves in position to grab the game or at least push it to overtime. To hold that team to 61pts was a big accomplishment.
The game was there for the taking. But it never felt like we had it in us. Could we have slipped into an emotional hangover after the highs reached in the victory over SC. Early season the team experienced some tough losses that we shoulda, woulda, coulda but crucial lesson gained of take it in stride, learn from it and not get too down. The flip side to that is to not swing too high in the other direction.
A heartbreaker. Too bad, as this is Cal's year in basketball. Most of our very top players will be leaving.
Can't believe it's true that Cal will have to go east next year to play half or so of it's league basketball games. Tell me I'm dreaming. If not, it's so stupid that will be happening. Once it happens people will say how could that have happened and many will demand it somehow must change.
Off-season goal for Grant Newell…free throws and consistent effort. Missed 4 biggies, and the consistency in his game really hasn’t been where you would like for a SO.
Talent is there, though. But in these games where you need someone else to step up, it’s the glue guys that really have to make plays. That’s the next evolution in his game, and trust this coaching staff will get them there.

My first game of the year. Not sold out, but fairly full. 75%? Far cry from the last xx years!
Quick start, but then devolved into Fox offense. And couldn’t handle the ucla press. Which was disheartening.
But during the comeback, the crowd was into it and loud.
Went with 8-yo daughter, who was also into it. For the first time, she wasn’t distracted by anything. Cheering tons during the comeback :-)

Great effort Bears.
So AWESOME to have a competent basketball program again…it’s a beautiful thing.
WE ARE ACTUALLY SETTING EXPECTATIONS AND GOALS!

Tough loss but lots of heart. UCLA's been hot for a month and we played them tighter than anyone.
Nice come back.
Newell…smh.
Celestine was a good option there with clear look. Just didn't hit it.
Drifted back a touch. But that’s the shot you want.
left it short, and that's game
Who gets the final shot? And will UCLA foul?
Aimac waited on that rebound and Steph picked his pocket
Not sure why Tyson was in a hurry there.
hoping for a foul?
It was a force into 2 7-footers….ugh.
Dammit
Force. Bummer.
Crunch time.
Fardaws not quite strong enough to avoid getting bodied into the restricted area.
Bona is a future NBA player who's only skill is being physical and athletic.
Yup. Definitely not a knock on Aimaq. Bona is hunk of stone.
He elbowed amaiq in the face
T HIM UP. WHINER
Aimaq had 6 and 4 with 6 left, and damn if he won’t end up with a double-double.
Cronin. Shut. The fuck up
Aimac!
Tenacious possession
Cal leads!
Isn't Fox coaching in the People's Park League?
Somewhere Mark Fox and Ben Howland are smiling at this slog of a game.
That was offensivr
nah,
and a waste of 5 minutes for review. Play on
Aimaq starting to beast on the boards just in time.
Damn, Fardaws at the line…
oh, ye of little faith
63%…it’s science. ;-)
make 'em when you need to
He made em
YES
No lead is safe when Cal is on the floor!
Bears lead!
Knew he was missing those.
He’s not ready to play today.
Newell can’t be in there
FT's.....
Great rebound.
Whatever the outcome of this game or season, it’s such a relief to watch the Bears be competitive.
Right?!?!
We’re absolutely back..a legit ball club. Glorious to see.
Awful possession
Oh yeah
Win these last 6 minutes and win the game. Short memory.
Defensive rebounding has been the difference.
Bears are competing
How can a guy as big as Bona leave a 2-ft shot short?
Now or never Bears.
Live by 3 die by 3
That 3 by the Turk hurt after Cal stood around & watched UCLA grab 2 offensive boards.
Cone and Celestine are getting looks too.
Dagger.
Come on Bears. Grab a frigging board.
right now the rebounds are the difference as Bruins have had more chances (and taken 8 more shots)
We're finally driving inside and seeing results
Newell is in a fog.
Shaquille O'Larson
Entering the Cone Zone
Keonte!
