"and wide receivers who looked far more comfortable with their drops"

I'd argue the WRs have been comfortable with drops all year

I've had similar thoughts to this: it sucks that the team is bad and we made bad coaching hires, but at least they're moving way more swiftly to find a fix than Cal football ever would have done in the past.

So we have a former Tedford’s OC calling plays now? How amusing.

More coping for those who partake. We've been tied or ahead in the fourth quarter in four of our five games thus far. Only exception was Clemson, where we trailed 17-10 heading into the final stanza.

Groping for positives here. In years past, this move would have taken 19 months to make.

Should have happened much earlier.

There needed to be major changes after ucla, and if not then, certainly after Syracuse.

Wagner was a defacto scrimmage - that week would have been a perfect time to put new things in, even if you didn’t want to show all of them in game.

Glad we’re not waiting any further, put but sense of urgency should have set in by half time of the 1st game!!

It’s so funny how everybody assumed it was Rolovich who “took over”. From “Give Ron the keys,” to thinking JKS was the next coming of Jared Goff, to believing all of Lupoi’s hype about hiring his NFL buddies, it is fascinating, the idolatry shown by fans, esp. the tendency of Cal fans to think some single guru or another has our success recipe tucked neatly into his back pocket, ready to pull it out and implement it at the necessary moment. I remember how so many thought success relied on Jake Spavital (yeah, the guy who took forever to install a future Heisman winner at qb, in favor of Sam “I’ve hardly ever done this before” Jackson V and the courageous but limited Ben Finley), talking as if this guy were the next coming of Don Coryell. Anyway, I hope Pat McCann is allowed to develop this offense for the remainder of this season. Go with the hot hand, I say.

Great good, bad, and the ugly usage!

Right move in a sad situation for all. Tech is going to be tough to win but at this point maybe we can just hope for improvement? Too bad our bye week isn’t until November.

Hmm didn’t we fail to get a td after successful onside kick and their kick off return fumble… Trying something new is welcome but trying not to get my hopes up. Been hurt too many times

We still had mostly a backup offense on the field. This is not an ideal situation to engineer a 17-point come-from-behind victory.

Tosh actually said they made the decision after the onside kick and fumble only resulted in 3 points in the middle of the third quarter. Gives me more hope.

Day late? Dollar short?

Let's hope not.

Thanks Avi. Do we deduce that the decision actually came from RR, and not Tosh opening his eyes to what was going on? Also, when you say "you have to feel bad for Somerville....", uh no. You feel bad for someone who struggles in a situation beyond their control. In hindsight it was clear this risky hire didn't pan out, and he wasn't ready for the job.

Also, if you're not ready for the job...sometimes you don't take it. He took it, so he's accountable for it.

I believe Ron advised Tosh about how this was looking, and a call was made after the offense did not course correct in a winnable UNLV game.

Godspeed, Coach McCann.
