The way the season has gone I did not expect to say: The offense kept us competitive and the defense lost us the game. ST choices and decisions were bad for both teams so Imma say that just a push.

I expected to get completely blown out after repeated poor performances. We weren’t and we were in it until late. I’m pleased at the end of the day. Do I know what the hell happened to our usually at least reasonably stout d? Nope not a clue. But we stayed in a football sprint race and we were not embarrassed. At this point that’s enough for me (which says a lot about the state of the program, I’m well aware.)

The D got Dubbed, just to a lesser degree. OSU has talent and good coaching.

Pretty bad look by the defense. I guess we should give DeRuyter credit for the defense in the early Wilcox era.

DeRuyter's post Cal defenses haven't been anything special. Seems like "Alexander coaching Dykes recruits" is the key

Personnel as well.

There was NFL talent on that D, plus Evan Weaver…

Just remember, Jonathan Smith took over a 1-11 Oregon state the year after Wilcox took over at Cal.

Well our D got burned, but we fought better than we have, recently, against other ranked opponents. It gives me cause for hope.

I look upon this season as a great chance to assemble a wish list of players we may want from the Portal. Let’s be honest, our chances of an upset or two are looking better, now.

Which outweighs the other?

1) Excited about Mendoza

2) Depressed by the defense

3) Coach Sirmon needs a sabbatical

Wilcox needs to go with him.

Wilcox has no answers for this program. To have the defense be so thoroughly throttled by a ball control offense is an issue.

4 wins, again.

The defense collapsing outweighs the idea that MAYBE we have a quarterback.

We do have a qb. That was a good d on a good team.

Very impressed by Mendoza but lets see how he looks with teams actually preparing for him.

We put up 40 and lose? Yup.

3 things:

special teams gave OSU great field position

Sirmon can't coach his way out of a paper bag and should be fired

our 2 DB coaches must be looking at each other right now and thinking, "which one of us stays and which one of us gets fired?" although both should be fired right now.

bigger issues: is Sirmon (the younger) OK, is Ott OK? Vit looked bad and may be season ending but Swinney is damn good.

Nando's presser will be a classic for Bear fans.

poor ST's just kept the Beavers under 600 yards of offense

Exceeded expectations! Was very surprised that Wilcox didn’t put Finley in when Mendoza started leading touchdown drives. Nice to see competitive into the fourth quarter. Can Cal get to 5 or 6 wins?

surprised to not see in the insta-recap: only 1 OSU punt. That's all we have to know. And if you want another stat, 5 for 5 on 4th downs.

And no forced turnovers, and the one FG attempt was the clock-killing drive.

Defense was bad bad.

Special teams was atrocious.

Offense is maybe ok…?

The offense played well. Hopefully Mendoza can continue to move the ball against teams that have film on him.

I don't understand why the defense has regressed every week since Auburn.

Because of Simon. He has no communication going on with his spotters and assistants in the press box. He just calls D's off the "top of his head". He called way too much cover one.
