Deserves more minutes! Way to step up in the moment.

Have not enjoyed Cal basketball this much this season for many years/. Go Bears!

So happy to see the way Madsen is coaching this team up.

Color commentator and former great Demon Deacon Randolph Childress made a great point on the broadcast when Manyiel Dut had his big moment - that the credit for your 4th string big being ready to go in that situation is due to Madsen's preparation of his players. HUGE Win!

He’s the reason Miami started missing lay ups in the crucial last moments. Something about a 7 footer with huge wing span is very unsettling. Hope to see more of him down the stretch.

Or just DMD!!!

Don’t Mess with Dut

A lot going against this team with all the fouls and big man injuries, but they just keep coming at you. Even in the losses like VaTech and FSU they kept at it and came up just barely short.

Cal basketball has not been this enjoyable in a long time.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Impressed that they’re never out of it. Battled back from double-digits in 3 straight - battled Duke for much of the game despite an off-shooting night.

These kids are mentally the toughest team we’ve had since Monty, IMO.

Pippen’s craftiness is a big part…he plays like a much older player. For me, he’s certainly been the most surprising player.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I was skeptical he could become this type of player so soon after the film from Michigan.

He’s been the MVP - though Cal’s stretch of playing quality basketball since the Va Tech toughie has also coincided with Camden’s hot stretch shooting.

It’s Feb 1 and Cal is in the Dance on most prognostications - fantastic news and an amazing job by all.

Dut! Hero for Cal comes out of nowhere with the game on the line....

1. Blocked a critical layup at the rim that would have probably been nail in the coffin for Cal.

2. Great effort screen and roll to the hoop for a put back to give Cal the 1 pt lead.

3. Help defense on the last shot of the game to alter the shot from Henderson that he'd been hitting all game long. Without Dut I have no doubt that shot goes in for the Miami win.

Dut gets the game ball no doubt.

Win of the year!

Cal SHOULD be good enough to beat GT at home without Dort but boy are they going to need him for the clemson game

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

As I did last Saturday, just rewound the game back to the beginning and am watching again.

4-5 front 9 with LOU/@UVA/@VATECH/DUKE/UNC/@Furd/@MIAMI is fantastic.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Dut huge late.

Officials certainly have gotten the memo from the conference to watch Cal’s bigs on the high-ball screen. We get whistled at least once or twice every game on that play.

A gritty, great win on the road!!

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

As Lloyd Bridges’ Steve McCroskey character said in the 1980 comedy classic Airplane! “G-U-T-S GUTS!”

Big win! But almost in spite of the coaches’ decision to have Pippen be inbounder and to throw the ball to Dorsey who hadn’t made a shot all day. Dorsey looks off Chris Bell and proceeds to miss both free throws.

Why not have Pippen (our best free throw shooter) be available to actually shoot important free throws?

JP90's avatar

I hear you but I like our best decision maker with the ball making the critical decision on the inbound pass, particularly with no timeouts.

KetamineCal's avatar

Magnificently gritty! Madsen had to throw everything we had at the Canes and we got just enough. This is as satisfying as a win gets. Manyiel Dut came out looking unpolished, but demonstrated exceptional hustle and filled his role perfectly in crucial situations. I'm so proud of him and I'm sure Madsen is too.

I pray that Dort returns imminently but hope Madsen has identified situations where he can deploy his 4th-stringer. We really need 15 fouls/game at the 5.

Am I seeing that Oski Spirit Meter finally tick up?

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Tip of the cap to you…you’ve been high on this roster from the get-go.

The exciting past 3-weeks worth of ball games have been the most fun I’ve had with Cal hoops in over a decade.

Let’s keep the momentum going and hold serve at Haas!.

Stanfurdstinks's avatar

Fingers crossed Mr. Chitwood. You've been a supporter/participant in MBB through good times and bad (through an era where it's been hard to be enganged). Much respect to you. I hope the dark days are behind us.

Who are the hosts for the ACC studio show? Talk about biased?!! They handed out grades for Cal and Snodfart. One I think is a former UNC player basically said something nonsensical and gave them a C+. Probably still smarting from getting swept in the Bay. Then the other gave them a B and said that they’ve done well to reload. Then they graded 4 teams with new coaches and gave them an A- because they’ve done well to reload. The west coast teams still get no respect in the ACC. The Bears are just going to have to take it.

heyalumnigo's avatar

If it's the same guys, one is Joel Berry II. Won a natty at UNC. (Dook sucks) The other guy is Luke Hancock. Part of the Louisville natty team that had to vacate their win due to hookers (and not blow).

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

What a half a$$ approach…if you’re gonna get the hookers, do the blow…

AKBear's avatar

But the one host named Luke gave his game ball to Camden so not all biased. Go Bears!!

HOLY SHIT WE DID IT! NOW NEED DORT BACK WERE LOOKING SO GOOD

Eric's avatar

We have 9 games left in the regular season. Looking at the them, I think 6-3 is very realistic.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

6-3 would put us at 10-8 in the ACC with 21 countable W’s (Dominican D2 is meh resume-wise)….6-3 is absolutely do-able, but as important as it is, so too is avoiding bad losses. Which means they NEED to TCB and beat GA Tech and Pitt at Haas, AND win @ BC and @ GA Tech - an L in ANY of those is BAD…and ideally you beat ‘Furd at home…then 1-3 v CLEM/SMU/@ Cuse/@Wake.

Then again, get Dort back, go 7-2 AND just move into LOCK territory…

Chuck's avatar

Go Bears!😎

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

That 3-ball by Dai Dai was so big!

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Also, the Kocanas 3 at the 11 min mark of 1H was large, as was the 2H Pippen bank job with 8 and change left.
