Looks like he's put on some weight, in a good way, since last year.

Fernando is a truly outstanding human being. If he is anything like how he appears in interviews, then a Cal degree would mean any company in America would greedily try to hire him into some position of leadership. IF his football career doesn't go on for 20 years, look for him to rise high in whatever field he enters. He has about the best personality I've seen in our QB position. A few rivals, but no one more positive and wise and clear and energetic.

Pretty sure Mendoza will be successful in whatever he decides to do. The Athletic piece on the ACC highlighted Mendoza as one to watch. If we can get better O line play then mark the Miami game as one to definitely watch in person if possible.

Let me begin by saying it has been an amazing run for CAL in the transfer portal in recent weeks and months; on the surface, we have picked up some highly-rated players from some elite programs. However, no one is talking about whether our QB and OL can hold up. I, for one, am not impressed with our QB room; we have a PWO as our potential starting QB; by all accounts, Chandler Rogers did not set the world on fire during the spring, suggesting Mendoza is our guy. The last game we saw out of him was in the Bowl Game in which he was at his worst, throwing three picks and our OL allowed him to be sacked 6 times during that game, not exactly a stellar OL going into the Offseason.. I am really happy he is improving and making strides, but are we not able to get a legitimate starting caliber QB from an elite program to challenge him. All the sunshine is great, but ultimately if the QB cannot get the balls in the hands of these great skills players because either he is not talented enough or because the OL can't give him the time, everything else won't matter. I want nothing more for than CAL to be successful, however, I have no confidence in this OL. I think the OL recruiting has been questionable and for whatever reason has not picked up the same quality players out of the Portal. Now I will say that our OL has improved last year but its one thing to improve and quite another to make that the strength of your team. All the teams in the National conversation seem to have had strong OLs, look at the turnaround at Washington, yes they had NFL caliber WRs and QB but their OL was pretty amazing as well. I hope that the QB and OL are as good as the sunshine coming from these articles suggests.

After years of bottom of the conference offenses under Wilcox, we return most of the key pieces of a middle of the Pac offense, including one of the best running backs in the country, and one of the better freshmen QBs we've had in recent memory with a lot of room and the desire to grow. The offense might not turn heads but frankly I'm way more worried about the defense.
