We have a lot of talent at QB on our roster competing for the top spot. And we have a stud coming in. Only one is going to play, so unless you think you have a real shot at eventually winning a starting role, or unless you love CAL, the CAL experience and the education it provides, it's probably wise to move on. I we only had 3 solid prospects on our roster I would be worried, but every one of those kids can be coached up to play if needed, including Robby Rowell (the kid has some chops). I wish Casey great success at his new school.

Not sure that we have a lot of talent at QB currently. There is some "potential" with Milner coming in. The loss of Casey definitely reduces the room's over-all "potential", IMO. I would not be surprised if walk-on Rowell became the 2nd string QB. While at one of the last few open practices ~ seems like years ago now ~ he was the only QB that threw the ball on time. And this was during warm ups. Once live sessions began, DBs had no problem defending the late deliveries. Chase was one of the worst offenders and that may explain his reluctance to throw in tight windows. I sense the staff will "give" Chase the starting role, which says more about the staffs inability to develop a QB in 3 + years than the players in the room. Either way Musgrave has to show some offense this year, first step is getting through a successful ~ not interrupted ~ Spring, 2nd step same for Summer camp. If Cal can accomplish that then going into the season Musgrave will no longer be given a free pass. I'm in Musgrave's corner, I believe he can develop a dynamic offense that will win games and excite fans. Go Bears.

One more thing, Casey was recruited as a dual threat QB. Musgrave is all about Pro Style QB's. I'm sure Casey will do well in a program more suited to his talents. Again, I wish him great success. It was a difficult decision I am sure.

Just not if he goes to Oregon and is the next big thing! : /

Hate to see him go. But we’ll be just fine.

As I live and age, I get less and less worked up about coaches or players leaving our program. You can't run realistic scenarios of what impact they would have made if they had stayed. What if Marshawn had transferred? Sure, in retrospect. I wish Casey well. One thing I know, players rarely transfer if they expect to start and are killing it. This means for me, we have stronger guys in the mix. In Wilcox I trust.

Me too. I stopped worrying about recruits switching or newer players transferring. If veteran star players transferred, that would be sad, but it rarely happens except for grad transfers. It was sad when Tre Watson transferred to Texas.

And Demetrius...... Sads.

Oh completely forgot about that one. So sad.

Btw he was buried in depth chart at Georgia and was arrested last month.

Removed a boot from his car! I know I shouldn't have but it made me laugh hysterically. Turns out it is a felony cuz of the value of the boot ~ $750!!

Oh geez! I'm so sorry to hear that! What a shame.

I always question transferring to a Top ~5 program..... Lots of (other) talent there......

Ya. He may still get drafted, tho it's highly unlikely, esp with 2 run-ins with the law.

49 catches in 3 seasons at UGA, after 50 alone in his FR year at Cal. 2 more seasons at Cal with Garbers v. non-SEC level DBs and he's probably an early entrant, day 2 pick.

I figure Makai Polk to have a similarly unspectacular career in Starkville...

Demetrius had his reasons but from a football standpoint, that move home totally backfired.

I am searching my memory banks for Cal quarterbacks who transferred to greener pastures. There was a guy named Perry Klein who left to a juggernaut football program named C.W. Post and later had a cup of coffee with an NFL team. And then there was a guy named Ross Bowers who went to Northern Illinois University and is apparently still a work in progress. Before that, a guy named Zach Kline went to Indiana State and later became a CFL quarterback.

Oh yeah, someone named Vince Ferragamo did okay after he left for Nebraska. Mixed results, but better than holding a clipboard.

Allan Bridgford never made it to the NFL, but he became a lawyer.

I really, really wanted Bridgford to make a splash at Cal. Mission Viejo kid as I recall. But he came in the waning years of the Tedford era when Tedford had lost all of his magic with developing quarterbacks. Glad he is doing well.

"Ferragamo played as much, if not more, than Bartkowski while he was at Cal and i think was the hero in one Big Game." Ferragamo started in every game he played at Cal, beginning with the ninth game of the '72 season (after the Bears had fallen to 1-7 in Mike White's first season) through the end of the '73. Bartkowski played a great deal throughout '73, backing up Ferragamo. Ferragamo threw a touchdown pass to Steve Sweeney towards the east side of the south end zone on the final play of the '72 Big Game, a 24-21 Cal victory.

Believe Daryle Lamonica was the owner of the Mad Bomber moniker. I agree with White's assessment of Roth. Cheers!

Caden’s message thanks Coach “Musgraves,” not Musgrave. A hint at how close he was to his QB coach snd Offensive Coordinator?

Milner may be the shiny new thing at QB. Probably is after the insane 2-point conversion flip that was on ESPN and went viral.

Oh man GoBears49 isn't going to like this one, his prized possession of the QB battle is already out of the running. Who knows there could be a variety of factors, maybe he doesn't like the system or didn't pick it up like Brasch did or something like that. The reason I'm going with (and I hope this doesn't end up like a Zack Kline freezing cold take) is that Kai Millner is already THAT DUDE and is probably already in a boxing fight with Brasch for QB2. All the best for Casey.

Haha that was my first thought too. GB49 is not going to be happy.
