Mendoza will get the nod. Rogers will need to show a clear level of superiority to win the job. Tough to do in three weeks, especially after his Spring performance. Mendoza will be the starter, Rogers will be insurance in case Mendoza gets injured.
I think, after some tough contact he took last year, Mendoza's up to it. I hope he does not over extend and get injured. Rogers has a pretty good long ball and, of course, great speed and scrambling skills. It will be interesting and I think both QBs should come out the better for it.
It's going to come down to two things: consistency and limited turnovers. TO's will get a seat on the bench. All things being equal or close with stats, then consistency will be the decider.
Whoever becomes the starter at quarterback, Cal will need consistency, execution, and savvy given the limits of our offensive line. Having a rotation at the position is a difficult path for on field success. My personal preference would be for Mendoza to mature this season and bring stability to the position for seasons to come.
Like it: forcing Auburn to cover their bases and prep for both styles of these QBs is one of many reasons to play them both. Even if Rogers isn't named the starter, both he and the team will benefit if he sees some meaningful snaps vs. UC Davis. Having Rogers with a suite of QB run plays would add to the possibilities that Cal can employ in any game.
It seems like Rogers does quicker reads, but he also seem to telegraph from the snap who his intended receiver is.
Overall, I like Mendoza, but, as noted in the article, turnovers are killers. I am anxious to see how both perform.
I'm curious to see what the team decides to do on the interior DL.

Nando's got the leadership factor. I will be interested to see if Chandler can best that.
Touche' Excellent observation!

My cop out prediction: Mendoza starts against Davis but we see equal parts Rogers in the game, then it remains open so Auburn has to prepare for both.

I like it. Mengers (our hybrid AI QB) at Auburn.
