Cal Quarterback Jackson Brousseau On Stepping Into A New Environment
The transfer backup has settled in quickly, and has nothing but praise for Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele.
Transfer quarterback Jackson Brousseau made his transition into Cal’s offense sound straightforward, crediting the people around him as much as his own ability to pick things up.
“I spent a lot of time trying to learn the offense, but the biggest thing for us was just trying to get a bead on who everyone was in the room. You come in close and these guys are so amazing. It was really easy to do that and we were really close.”
With a loaded receiver and tight end group coming through the portal, Brousseau has liked what he’s seen from his pass catchers early on.
“They work hard, they work real hard. Some real talented guys. There’s real urgency to be great here.”
He had similarly warm early impressions of his offensive line, with the caveat that pads haven’t come on yet.
“There are some great dudes. We haven’t got pads on yet, but they worked their butts off. Very solid.”
The most notable relationship in the room is the one with returning starter Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, and Brousseau had genuine enthusiasm describing it.
“The first thing for me is he’s an incredible person. He’s a guy that I want to call all the time and just talk to him because he’s so funny and so loving. But as a player, he’s extremely talented and he works. He’s always pushing us to get better and we’re pushing him to get better. He’s amazing.”
Asked what’s really impressed him, Brousseau didn’t hesitate.
“He’s an incredible person, he really is. Like if you get to meet him in person, he is incredible.”
He did, however, miss the JKS merch drop.
“I had class. I freaking wish. I told him I need a hoodie though. I need one for sure.”
