The focus will be on making sure are the elements are in working order, and as Jimmy says, trying to be consistent for four quarters. If the defense keeps them off the board, our running game is dominant and helps open up the passing game, it could be a blowout, but that would never be Wilcox's goal. Also, there is the element of showing the bare minimum of the playbook to Auburn. This is especially true since we have a new OC, and teams will have to be guessing what he's going to try to do with the offense.
A good test early for Wilcox…can they put together 4 good quarters and win comfortably.
Seem to recall a few of Wilcox’s previous teams going 3 & out to start the 3Q in a one-score game early in the season v an overmatched foe and having to sweat it out. Hoping to avoid that: a steady, workmanlike game where they shake off the rust but play like a 20-point favorite should v the Aggies would be a nice first step for this inaugural ACC year.
I don't think The University of California will cover the spread, but they will win easily because of all the portal movement and there is no true consistency As far as the knowledge of the offense.
It's streaming-only. If you have a TV package that carries ACC Network, you should be able to log in to the ESPN app (or the WatchESPN website) using your Dish credentials and view it there. That's where you find ACCNx content.
It'll also be replayed on standard ACC Network on Tuesday night, if you want to get a DVR copy of it.
I have DIRECTV Stream, subscribe to Sling Orange during fb season. When the tube starts up, all the options show and I click on sling, and (at least last year) bingo, Cal!
I’m staying with someone who has YouTubeTV. Are you saying I can watch it there? If I can’t watch my Bears, I am going to be soo upset. Back to the PAC-12 Network with no one carrying it. If I was in the Bay Area, I’d be at the game for sure. Upset I can’t be there in person… Go Bears
It's actually Ohio vs. Syracuse and Georgia State vs. Georgia Tech that are taking up space on ACC Network during that time. Not the most exciting matchups, but at least they are FBS vs. FBS. Most of the FCS body-bag games are on ACCNx, which seems fair.
Kappernick was very good that game. He ran a lot. We were there. SF wanted him to drop back and to pass in the style of most quarterbacks in the NFL and the AFL. He wanted to run. So they got rid of him. He shouldn’t have knelt down either. He was labelled as a troublemaker and the rest is history.
I believe we would win by a far bigger margin but Wilcox will not pour on the scoring against his friend and former CAL coach Tim Plough. I'm looking for us to cover and a lot of CAL players getting some game experience.
UCD is a sister school, versus UCLA, I don’t feel comfortable rolling up on. If we want to play the ranking game, we need to roll up on anyone we can. I don’t care for it, but it’s reality.
Just a thought: What keeps us from doing joint practices, like the NFL does? Even with Furd would be good.
Agree, besides the usual shaking the bugs out there are a lot of people needing to solidify their slot in the two-deep. Wilcox doesn't typically run the score up but I expect a blow out this time...
Let's hope Cal does not look like Southern Methodist did last night against Nevada. These next three games are pivotal to understanding the trajectory of our season.
I think we've down at least 2 scores to an FCS school 3 times in the Wilcox era. Fortunately every time we've pulled out a win but I really do not enjoy these games lol
Not sure about all the SMU hype. They did well in an easy conference last year and lost to every team with a pulse. It was always going to take a few years for them to move up to the P5 level of play.
I'm gonna say that if their line had a hard time protecting the QB against Nevada (and it did), they are really going to struggle against a P4 conference slate.
That night in the fog is unforgettable. Kaepernick was like a magician with the ball: now you see it, now you don't, now it's 30 yards down the sideline. It was a coming out party of the The Pistol.
Shredded us. I remember, back when I was teaching high school in nearby Ceres, the buzz about this amazing QB at Pittman High School. He just dominates the local high school conference. Then, he shredded Cal, when we played Nevada. The “Pistol Offense,” was deadly to us.
CAL seemed to have run scheme defensive problems all that year. I don't know how much was coaching, personnel just not good enough to make the right read (RB vs QB in the pistol) or Kap being a demi-god that game... oh wait, a bit of it all but give credit where it's due... Kap was amazing!

DOOM.
Will the game be televised? I have DISH and they don't list it on the TV schedule for college games.
Look it up, it is on the A.C c television network but it's a specialchannel.

I think sling orange provides all ACC games. Streaming…
Yes, Sling Orange has all ACC games, including the ACCNX games like Cal/Davis- I already confirmed it is in the upcoming lineup.
Not sure what Sling's interface is like, but I think you'll still need to log into the ESPN app to view the game live.

Ah, DirecTV might have some kind of app access through their own interface.
The internet says it's on ESPN+/ACC Extra, so not on the usual ESPN family lineup.
If you have the ACC Network via your cable/satellite/streaming provider, you should be able to access ACC Extra
ACC Network. I have YouTubeTV. You may have to buy an extra package with Dish

You can't watch it ON YouTubeTV, but that person's YouTube login should be usable on the ESPN website or app to view the game.
I am totally shocked the ACCN would not pre-empt the Clemson game for ours!
Pffttt!

Clemson is playing a big game against Georgia that day! That one got picked up by ABC.
Yeah, I can’t believe it, but I’ll bet rooting for Clemson.
Go!
Bears!

All true. Or I agree.

September 4, 2010: Cal 52 UCD 3.
No shame in reviving Tedford era FCS scores, even against sister schools.
That was Keenan Allen's debut game.

And... FSU going down in Ireland...The Bear has to come out roaring...
QB's still need to work out the bugs in their game. It's good we start with Davis because the next game at Auburn will not be forgiving.
These games always stress me the hell out.
I think we've down at least 2 scores to an FCS school 3 times in the Wilcox era. Fortunately every time we've pulled out a win but I really do not enjoy these games lol
How often has the QB starting v the FCS team lasted the entire season?
Oh god I don't wanna think about that
Fuck it, start CJ Harris to keep the streak alive
Of the 4 games involving FBS games yesterday, none covered, if the favorite even won. This suggests a competitive start to the season.
Go Bears. I think the Bears will cover.
Did anybody see the Nevada-SMU game last night? Nevada was ahead the whole game but choked at the end.
Not sure about all the SMU hype. They did well in an easy conference last year and lost to every team with a pulse. It was always going to take a few years for them to move up to the P5 level of play.

mixed emotions there...still trying to get the taste of the Kaepernick game out of my mouth (we were there to see it live), but glad an ACC team won
That night in the fog is unforgettable. Kaepernick was like a magician with the ball: now you see it, now you don't, now it's 30 yards down the sideline. It was a coming out party of the The Pistol.
What was the deal with Kap?

Yeah, when Kap took the 49ers to the Super Bowl I didn't feel so bad about that loss anymore. Cal went up against a special talent in that game.
I remember our DC that year learned from that Nevada game and really improved against option plays run by far better rosters.
He was amazing. I held out hope he would make a comeback as a pro.
I wanted to see SMU lose so badly! Lol!
Same, here. I’m glad the hype train has to slow down, now.

Ah, that is good. There can be do doubt. ☠️☠️☠️☠️😱😱😱😱
