Cal ran approximately 36 plays in the second half. Only five of those were rushing attempts by our RBs. Brooks, despite having 5.4 YPC in the first half, had only two touches in the second.
I think this kind of game comes down to the QB (and offense philosophy leading up to it). Every now and then a team is going to need to get into a shoot out. Those are going to translate to blowout losses for us (unless the opponent is epically bad on defense), because your defense is going to get worn down and your will is going to be broken once you get behind by enough.
Chase has been good at ball control and extending drives with his legs and managing the offense while not being asked to do too much. But when shit hits the fan and you need to score points, you need a QB who can really sling it, and do it under pressure.
We have some talented running backs which is clear.. but we also do have some talented receivers who are under-utilized. Those occasional strangely timed feeble attempts downfield just aren't going to cut it. There is just no cohesive passing game. (The Oregon State game was basically the ideal outlier, with low pressure and clean pocket all day. Stanford game.. forget it, was a joke).
It's pretty clear more than ever why Polk left.. this Cal team for the foreseeable future is not a place where receiving talent is going to be showcased.
I wouldnt be surprised if we see another talented receiver(s) like Hunter or JMS hit the transfer portal. Unless, maybe Chase announces he's not coming back and they personally have chemistry and hope with Millner.
Gawd what a roller coaster of a season. Up and down. I don’t care about u$c game. Remigio and garbers need to bounce. Wilcox gets one more year max. Probably more of the same next year though.

This is a coaching failure.
Yes. Brooks did seem to have some sort of left arm injury. But they could have played Dancy.
Could have player DeCarlos Brooks, Dancy, or Streets
Or Moore.
Cal just doesn’t have the horses.
More Kool-Aid available for the truly gullible next year.

That game was unpleasant.
Why No play action roll outs to keep garbers away from pressure?

Given that we likely have to break in a new QB next year the expectations for the program will be low.
