Encouraging to win with relative comfort on a night when the team wasn’t at their best. Biggest positive was more data that Pippen is having the kind of sophomore bust out season that his recruiting profile suggested was very possible
I am feeling hope and positivity on multiple fronts tonight. I have not felt this in years. This is… good? I’m so emotionally scarred I don’t know what to do.
Many things to say about this solid win, but I will note that Pippen said Ames is the best offensive player he's ever played with, and Pippen played at Michigan. We've got a quad of solid scorring in Pippen, Ames, Camden and Bell. Combine this with stout defense and you win a lot of games. Might this be our first tourney team in some time? Might this be a better overall team even than the Jaylen Brown lose to Hawaii team? I sure like what I'm seeing. We look better coached than the teams we play. We try as hard or harder. We have scoring. Go Bears!
That’s a tuff comparison as that team had 3-5 Star recruits, a high 4-Star at point and a very solid 3-Star with Sam at the 2 spot. If that team hadn’t lost two players before the game and then Jaylen and Sam to foul trouble, who knows how for they could have gone. Worst Cal sports experience of my life - at least being there live. That loss still lingers for me.
I was there too! Still stings for me too. I know we had some players missing for that game, but I felt Hawaii beat us more from better execution and team play rather than talent. It was a critique of Cuonzo's teams that they had good and even elite talent, but lacked the sort of cooperative team play that Monty's teams or this year's team seem to show. The whole being greater than the sum of the parts.
In all seriousness, I was able to catch the second half last night and I was impressed at the team's play. Yes, the game was tight, but every time they needed to collect themselves and keep Utah from grabbing the lead in the final minutes, they did so. This looks like a fun team. Madsen appears ready to turn a corner.
I didn't get to watch this one but love hearing about a W. Good to hear Pippen's showing even more spark. Keep up the good play and we can declare him fully ignited.
It is so refreshing to see Cal compete night in and night out. Utah is a very good team that is quick and loaded with great shooters. In the past we would have been down twenty and struggling to get points. Madsen and Staff have gotten into a groove finding players with skills but also very coachable. Time and time again Cal makes the adjustments that keeps us in games. Overall Pippin played great on both sides of the ball but he struggled early against Brown (#2) but whatever the coaches told him (and his teammates) nullified his game to where his coach pulled him down the stretch.
Well they’re available through the ESPN app on ACCX if you have an espn membership or log in with your cable provider. In looking at the schedule, looks like this will be the case for most of the non-conference games, but once we get into ACC play, it’ll be mostly the main ACC Network with a handful on ESPN2/U.

If we can get that type of defense out of Pippen regularly, this team will do much better than expected.
Agreed. He had a great game on both ends.
Really developing nicely after a lost season in Ann Arbor.

Is Tosh here--no, wait! Wrong thread.

The team really missed Petraitis tonight hope he's back soon.
Glue guy.

Nullified Browns game
Got it. Thanks
Why can't CAL b-ball get on TV? They are winning games!
