Still plenty of red flags tho if we’re talking NCAA Tourney. Getting Rytis back is huge…hopefully he can return otherwise NIT is gonna probably be the ceiling.
Which would still be fantastic given the past decade…but CBB is so much more fun when Cal’s in the March Madness discussion.
Conference play is going to reveal some harsh truths about our depth. Rytis has been the quintessential 6th man and the 2nd unit frontcourt is otherwise lacking.
Actual injury not disclosed yet but it was a previous one he seemed to re-aggravate around fUCLA game. He struggled with a lower body injury last year he played through.
Maybe this will get TT, Dorsey and Milos going offensively…still not enough data on them at this level to know if they’ll be able to give you anything in league play v the stacked ACC. Based on 2024 season, Milos likely has more in the tank than he’s shown.
I didn't know who a couple of those guys were so I looked at the roster. I noticed that three guys were listed as grad students enrolled in a certificate program at UC Extension. I'm curious, is that a relatively new option? I had assumed you needed to be accepted to a graduate degree program to be eligible. Not crying about it; just curious.
Phewww. Hopefully, lesson learned.
The 1H shooting stats were kind of an outlier, though this team misses way too many shots in the paint.
Bigger issue long term is the drop off in talent level of the bench and the eye test shows they are just not playing well.
Kocanas always looks pumped when he comes in. Have we tried him instead of Ilic with the 2nd unit?
He just really not be ready to contribute.
JFC, 2 bonehead techs tonight for a team that was down at half to a D2 team.
I suspect MM will have some things to say about. He benched DJ since his, which was really poor form.
Maybe the benching will extend into the next game and a better option emerges? Does anyone happen to know DJ's +/-?
Oh hello TT.
Finally some defensive intensity that's translating into points.
Yup.

a D2 team shooting 49%? Gonna get crushed on Tobacco Road
Well, thankfully they have those teams here, but they’re still going to get crushed. Louisville too.
Can this team win v the GA Tech’s, BC, ND’s….etc.
What is the injury report on Rytis?
Actual injury not disclosed yet but it was a previous one he seemed to re-aggravate around fUCLA game. He struggled with a lower body injury last year he played through.
Madsen is going to have to tweak his rotation come ACC play.
Justin Pippen has shown he belongs.
Reality check. Better now than conference. How will the team respond?
The 2nd unit remains a major issue that limits the ceiling of this club, especially if Rytis is out long term.
Does Dorsey deserve any Minutes?
He was always a question mark on O, but the D was supposed to be a little better. Maybe it’s the calf injury.
Yeah. Was hoping for more out of DJ Campbell. Don’t know if rusty still, or just not that good.
It’s the role he’s in. He showed last year that he’s not a 20+ mpg guy at this level.
He’s an 8-10 guy off the bench.
Egads, the Nolan Dorsey, TT, Ilic & DJ Campbell combination continues to be a disaster.
TT looks better playing with the starters, at least.
Agreed.
MM has to sort out the rotations.
Yeah, this Cal team is not dancing. I was hopeful but just not seeing it.
NIT would still be good and definitive progress.
Year 1 under Madsen: competent.
Year 2 under Madsen: competitive
Year 3 under Madsen: best roster yet.
MM definitely has us on the right track but still too many mid-major talents on the roster to make the Dance. Need to find some donors.
This is not good.
No kidding, shots are not falling.
20% from the field, 1-15 from 3.
Better, but still not a good enough shooting team to make the Tournament.
I tuned in as I was getting ready for bed and heard those stats. I guess the only good thing is they can’t be much worse as I’m sleeping.

Also hoping for big minutes for Kocanas and Dut.
We saw our answer.
Not good.

Go Bears!
Aren't they a Div 2 team? Is this an exhibition game? Will it count as a win?
yes it counts. And I woudl not assume a W at this point.....
It will easily be the worst loss of the year in all of College Basketball if they don’t figure it out in 2H.
