Thoughts a little over 4-hours following the L in Winston-Salem….

…disappointing close to the year but after the past 9+ seasons of irrelevance by the Cal Men’s Basketball program, this was nonetheless an incredibly solid year.

When you combine the injuries (Rytis/Dort/Yeanay/Ruff RS) with the lack of depth and many sizable holes, this largely 1-dimensional roster coming within a game or two of making the Tournament is really something to be proud of.

Dunno what things are going to look like next year in this stupid NIL/portal landscape, but 30+ games of national relevance was nice to see.

A really good first fifteen minutes of the game, and then 25 minutes that sucked. Some cold spells shooting. But what was really bad was our defense in the paint. Way, way too many points by Wake Forest in the paint. Way too many offensive rebounds by them. At times, our defense in the paint looked like a recreation league defense. Movement without the ball by Wake Forest at times left our defense looking confused and led to some easy baskets in the paint. A really, really good season until the last three games in which we did not look even NIT capable. We really need a second aggressive big body under the rim who won't foul much (is Dort still eligible next year?).

way too much double teaming out front which left wide open 3's in the corners or wings.

It’s simply been far too easy, far too often, for opponents to get a wide-open look from 3 off of just a single pass out of the double. Gealer got multiple opportunities 2H in the Stanford game at Haas.

It’s either a hole in the scheme, or more likely a breakdown by personnel.

Still a good season and we’ll see how many players stay to possibly take another step forward. Now it’s time to ignore ESPN and all the annoying hype of March Madness (now that we’re on the outs)

Great season. Hurts now, but proud of the kids.

Roster had holes and they battled. After the last decade, that was awesome.

Pop goes the bubble.

We simply didn’t capitalize on the opportunity we are given - let’s hope for a decent ACC tourney run

Lots of jawing at the end of the game.

I do not have a clue what happened here but that is two games in the last three where we imploded. NIT bound is right and fair. Still, a good season.

Yup. This team has a lot of flaws yet completely overachieved, given the lack of legitimate ACC-caliber players in the 2nd unit. 21-10, 9-9 with this bench is actually really damn good.

Great season regardless.

Pippen and Ames back.

Everyone else is expendable and needs to be upgraded.

KJ1980's avatar

Will they be back?

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Maybe 1 of them.

These guys just ship off to the highest bidder.

Bears once up 15. Doh!!!!!

Gift for Wake to have a stupid foul out
