Someone smarter than me needs to explain why Aristotle lifts Ott late in games when we need a 1st down. Nothing against DeCarlos, as the holding call was the real dagger, but Ott disappeared for BOTH the crucial 3 and out series...he finally sees the field, and takes it 72 to the house on the cut back to ice it.

Why is he not getting snaps on the previous two drives?

Otts combination of patience and burst is astounding for a true freshmen.

So, great adjustments for the O-line this week. Hopefully, there are some more adjustments coming down the pipe to cover the middle of the field better going forward.

Credit to Plummer, too. After a horrendous 1st quarter where it looked like he was trying to throw the ball into the sun, he was much more accurate for the rest of the game.

With our close loss to Notre Dame last week (with a really bad O-Line) and their solid win over a good UNC team today, coupled with our solid win over AZ and a 3-1 record, we'll get some votes for Top 25 this week.

Expand full comment

had we beaten ND with a better 1st quarter we would have beaten ND and gotten into the Top 25. And a certain ref....

I think we're going to have to live with slow starts this whole season. Plummer seems to take a while to settle down each game.

Expand full comment

Ott doesnโ€™t though ;-)

Best O-line play I've seen under Justin Wilcox. Last couple of years has felt like all of the pieces were in place except the O line.

Expand full comment

Was that our oldest losing streak we just broke? Or is Utah longer?

Expand full comment

that was our oldest streak. We beat Utah with Davis Webb

Feels real damn good to get that monkey off our back

Ottโ€™s 2nd long run was Jahvidesque.

Glad to see Vatikani was back out there. He looked like he got banged up a bit in the 3rd.

He was key

Nice win. How nice we played with a solid O-Line that can execute. Go Bears!!!

Expand full comment

Goodness about time, now let's see a massive exponential build on this in the next game.

Great comment. I think we'll be able to move the ball on WASU if we play like we did today. Our Defense will be tested by them however.

WSU going to be a challenge. Lets go at it Bears!

True, but Ott should never be absent from the field for 2 straight key series.

Sorry, but he's your RB1...get him consistent touches.

If we are up by as much was we were up and it's early in the season, you don't want to get him too beat up.

Agreed.

Announcer is right, Last week Cal let ND hang around and didn't make them one dimensional to force bad on good: bad ND QB versus our secondary.

Expand full comment

Solid adjustments in play calling for ND last week, tho...they really didn't put Pine in any high risk situation in 2H...everything was misdirection dump offs to the RBs and TEs....

He's going to get O player of the year.

Expand full comment

If Musgrave gives him 25 touches a night, he'll be in the discussion.

As long as he stays healthy! After watching other key players (Fresno State's QB a good example) go down, you realize how fast things can change.

Yeah, on a obvious playcall, Ott gets not only a first down but a TD. Where was he the last two drives

That's what elite individual players do...
