Cal vs. Miami Football Kick-Off: 7:30 PM on ESPN
The California Golden Bears get ready for their toughest game of the season After Dark.
The California Golden Bears will play their ACC home season opener against the seventh-ranked Miami Hurricanes next Saturday, October 5. The game is set at 7:30 PM Pacific, 10:30 PM Eastern on ESPN.
It’ll be Cal’s fourth straight national telecast, with their previous three games being broadcast on ESPN2 (Auburn, Florida State) and ESPN (San Diego State). Cal only played four regular season games on ESPN and ESPN2 total in 2023. The ACC continues to provide a boost in our overall national exposure.
Cal recently played Miami in the 2008 Emerald Bowl, winning 24-17 behind a scorching Jahvid Best performance. Prior to that, the two played a home-and-home in 1989-1990 in the height of "The U" era, with Miami winning 31-3 at home and 52-24 in Berkeley. The Bears also previously played the Hurricanes in 1964, winning 9-7.
There will be a few fun promotions. There’s a halftime drone show for one. You can see what the Cal Athletics staff helped coordinate last year for the Auburn game (click through the link below for video, or view on Twitter).
Could College Gameday still come to Berkeley? If Cal had won against Florida State, there was a very good shot of it. This week, it’s far more unclear.
But tickets are selling fast! If you want to attend the game, you’d better grab them soon.
Once again, ESPN has extended a giant middle finger to the fans -- this time both the home and visiting fans. If I were a Miami fan I would extend a giant middle finger back by boycotting this and any other game that kicks off at 10:30pm.
Ugh. Don't care for night games. Either in person or on TV. Also, Alumni Band Day. Which means us olds trying to stay energized past bed time.
