This program is going the wrong way.

Has been in a free fall since 11/6/21.

Niot quibbling, but why that date? Big Game?

GoldenSD81's avatar

I believe that is the day we lost to Arizona.

"To the town of Aquafria rode a stranger one fine day...

Was an Arizona Ranger...

With a big iron on his hip."

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Love that song.

And yes, that was at Arizona.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

I played it so much on our motorhome trip to AZ that my son won't let me play it any more.

AndDriveDriveDrive's avatar

It’s seems like Fernando actually played fine. He had no protection and receivers dropped balls like crazy.

Justbear's avatar

It's the downside of Mendoza going thru progressions. Other QBs only throw to Hunter and he catches everything. Other receivers not so much.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

But somehow Nando's passes have a higher chance of being caught than FInley's

Daddy's avatar

I saw enough to know Mendoza is the best QB we’ve seen. Second TD pass was really a Beauty.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Yes, gentle and on the money.

Wilcox seems like an honorable man.

He should do the honorable thing for the players and the program and step down.

It just hasn’t worked out and he’s been given ample time.

It’s just all played out.

Make one last classy move Justin.

SadBear's avatar

Your mistake is conflating introverted and soft spoken with honorable

Breaking News: If any of you are not, yet, completely drunk, please note, AZ is lighting up Wazzu in Pullman.

We, now, return to your regularly scheduled misery, er, topic.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Wilcox is dead last in coaching competence.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

If we were to play AZ this year, we lose.

sacman701's avatar

But if Wazzu plays the way they're playing today, we'll beat them. UCLA also pushed them around a lot worse than the score indicated last week.

Justbear's avatar

But we'll find a way to lose to Wazzu

Bowlesman 80's avatar

There you go getting our hopes up.

Ugghh. LOL

I don't think they have a bunch of injuries so, maybe, complacency?

Cougars gonna' coug.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

With QB2.

I could see UCLA with the win behind their elite D. This one is a puzzler however.

Toohandy's avatar

Their "elite" D sucked Saturday.

O.Overall's avatar

Yeah dude, at some point in the PAC you need to be able to score. This isn’t the Big Ten. I like Mendoza better than their guy

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Welp, the conference is safe from Cal cannibalizing any PAC 12 contenders.

GoldenBear88's avatar

Cal gets an overall grade of D for this game. The O line is still having trouble opening holes for Ott and keeping whichever QB is playing upright. The pass-catching was simply atrocious. I can't remember the last time I've seen so many dropped balls. Our run defense is almost non-existent and opposing QBs have all day to sit back and just pick apart the secondary. I thought that Johnson returning from injury was supposed to improve our pass rush? It has been non-existent lately. The only thing that prevented me from giving Cal a flat-out F were the nice touchdowns from Mendoza to Ott and Davis. If the O-line could give Mendoza more time to throw then maybe we might actually be able to win at least three more games. The way things are going now, 3-9 is looking like a distinct possibility.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Johnson tends to be double-teamed.

Any lineman with a number that ends with a 2, needs a new coach!

Are we going on 7 seasons of the same issues?

goldenone's avatar

I watched the first half and didn't watch the 2nd. Had a sense of foreboding. Oh well. I hope we can secure a fourth win somewhere.

sacman701's avatar

In the past two weeks we've shown that we can get torched by an unremarkable passing attack and paved by a below-average running game. The talent level on defense doesn't seem that bad on paper, but I'm extremely skeptical that we can come up with any answers. At this point I don't think we will even be favored against Furd.

goldenone's avatar

I think it will be 3-9. I don't know what else to say. Time to clean house

Must be nice to be a UW fan. Rugs, you still rooting for UW? If so, I might join you.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Who doesn’t like a good Penix?!

O.Overall's avatar

Wasn’t it UW that we beat like 66-3? Crazy how improved their program is. Makes you dream of the same in Strawberry Canyon…

Ironman: You aren't kidding and when I stopped watching the Cal horror show in Salt Lake City and switched to the UDUB-Oregon game, I discovered something amazing: THEIR RECEIVERS CATCH BALLS THAT HIT THEM IN THE HANDS!!!!!! Holy shit, what is the coaching staff doing between Monday and Friday of each week? I can only conclude that, after watching that game, we are simply BAD. Wilcox and co. get one more year in the ACC to see if they can turn things around and then we say sayonara. After seven years, we are getting WORSE, not better. Sigh......

GoldenSD81's avatar

Toler has got to go. His WRs can’t block, they get very little separation and now they can’t catch.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

The entire coaching staff needs to go.

sacman701's avatar

I could see an argument for keeping Spav depending on how the rest of the season goes.

O.Overall's avatar

Maybe but I think you have to give a new HC the opportunity to hire his own guys if he wants

GoldenSD81's avatar

Same with our OL coach. He was left with ground beef and is currently making a decent meatloaf.

goldenone's avatar

That's the sad and depressing truth
