Cal has its first win in the ACC!
The California Golden Bears (5-4, 1-4 ACC) earned its first win in the Atlantic Coast Conference, beating the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-5, 2-3 ACC), 46-36.
The Friday evening match-up was eventful and action-packed, with 886 total yards combined, including 500 from California.
The California Golden Bears did not have a three-and-out drive until the third quarter and scored on more than half of its possessions. Golden Bear quarterback Fernando Mendoza completed 40 out of 56 passes against the Demon Deacons, throwing for 385 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Special-team play was a bright spot for California. The Golden Bears had both of its kickers try two field goals each and both maintained perfect records. First-year kicker Derek Morris connected on two field goals in the first half, one from 29 yards out and another from 38, while senior Ryan Coe made two, both from 54 yards, including one right before the halftime whistle.
California, which has kept its opponents to an average of 17 points scored before tonight's contest, gave up 36 points to Wake Forest, only the second time this season an opponent has scored 30 points or more.
