thanks for capturing the two four year player's journeys, instead of just covering the game itself. It's why this site writes the best stories of any Cal site.
regarding officiating, I still haven't watched the replay, but there was another absolutely horrible call at the 1:45 mark in the highlight video. USC's star player literally took 4 steps (plus the gather step), and to add insult to injury they called a foul on Cal and the basket.
That's 3 bad calls in one play (tricky tak foul on Cal, missed walk, and continuation), which has to be some type of record.
Also, gotta give it up for Michelle who had the game of her life and made huge plays on both sides of the court
But I'm just being happy for the team after their best game of the season, and Lei announcing she's going to run it back
Great effort and win for the team. The results have not been great this season but they have at least competed for the most part in what is one of the toughest conferences for WBB. Hopefully, they can finish over .500 and win a game or two in the conference tournament.
How does Evelien make that shot while falling back away from the basket?! It kinda reminds me of a similarly difficult three Layshia made years ago in a game against USC to send it to overtime (which we unfortunately lost -- glad this had a different outcome).
This team had a fire and energy that if they had had in some of the other close games this season, they would have had more Ws. If Charmin can find a way to tap into that, look out!
That one ref seemed to have it in for Cal, calling every ticky tacky thing on us whilst ignoring the same or worse that UC did -- even when looking right at the play. And, the replays in Haas showed that there was still time on the clock when Jayda got her shot off and was fouled. It's just...
Since I'm here, I'm going to plug Jayda's and Leilani's gear you can buy:
You really captured it, Nick. One of the better basketball games I've seen in a long while and certainly the highlight of the season. The ref's call at the end of the game was other-worldly. I'd have been fuming it we lost. I don't know that I'ever been to game that was tied after one, tied at the half, tied after three and tied after regulation. No lead bigger than five IIRC.
One thing to correct, while we don't know what other players might leave at the end of the season, we do know that Leilani will be back, she announced this after the game. Makes it seem strange that she went through senior day ceremony knowing she'd be back.
Regarding Leilani going through the ceremony, other players have done the same, and she did graduate with a bachelors (her fifth year will be as a Grad)
Lei returning was possibly the best thing that happened at the game!

Not only was Evelien's shot crazy as she was falling to the ground, but she just beat the shot clock
Clutch weekend in Haas with the CWBB seniors and the CWGYM team pulling out a tie with the last two floor exercises!
