This one’s interesting. Utah is hardly a sure-fire better O, and he could have been WR1 here.
Devin Brown is not a P5 QB, tho he figures to start, so he probably saw the writing on the wall, given the power backs added and ground + pound approach that’s hinted.
You could say the same about Oklahoma. Ott could have gone to much better offenses even in the SEC that likely would have taken him. Oklahoma's offense last year was just a more expensive version of Cal's -- no blocking, no running, no scoring, etc. The money must have been right.
I’m actually not surprised Ott portaled, tho I am surprised he did so after agreeing and re-committing to Cal.
But Oklahoma is a train wreck, and he’s going up against grown-a$$ men from the SEC, plus Michigan. He’s never stayed healthy, and don’t expect it to start now with that schedule either.
Because the next skill position player Justin Wilcox has drafted will be his first. Unbelievable for a guy to be here nearly a decade and have developed…no one.
Who are you developing with a new OC every two years? One year just learning the system so you can really shine when your coach gets fired the next year.
Could be that they’ve overreacted to the new coaching staff, one they’ve seen a bunch of their teammates reject. Plus, the grass is always greener elsewhere… You go tour a different school and you get seduced by all the pretty women there (of course Cal has that too… but young men have wandering eyes)..
Interesting that a guy with his level of talent has never really stuck anywhere and earned a starting role. Surprised that he passed up a chance to be coached up by Kyle Cefalo. I'm wondering if a lot of these skill position transfers are because of our QB room uncertainty. Still wonder why Mendoza left.
I'd say Hinder is a great example of why transfer rules back then needed to be relaxed. Obviously he came out with a great Cal degree, but a lot of those kids do also just need a change of scenery to get rolling.
All these Offensive players leaving has to be because of the O coaching staff change. What else would drive off only offensive running backs and receivers and probably the best TE in the ACC. This NIL crap is ruining college sports.
Good luck young man. Bears reload, saddle up and move on! We got battles to fight and a war to win.

Seriously.

Why has almost the entire RB and receiving corps left ?

True, though simply by dumb luck you’d think someone would get drafted, despite a lack of progression. Any one.
Nearly 2000 guys have been selected since Wilcox took over. That speaks to a systemic rot on that side of the ball, which is news to no one…

There’s certainly a story there.
Mendoza left for money offered and family reasons.
Kids nowadays have no patience.
Just 10 years ago, Austin Hinder was here for 5 years. He had offer from Alabama but came to Cal. Never started a game. Graduated and left.
I'd say Hinder is a great example of why transfer rules back then needed to be relaxed. Obviously he came out with a great Cal degree, but a lot of those kids do also just need a change of scenery to get rolling.
Apparently landed a new portal receiver from Purdue this morning so the musical chairs continues

Can't keep up with the coming and going. Head is spinning.
