This tenacious defense should keep games within reach even when the offense sputters. And Shepard can do it all.

Barnes, Sheppard, Morris, Walker and Ojukwu are excellent additions. Donetz and Maul have improved significantly. We just need to stay healthy, particularly our few tall players. Defense is going to keep the Bears in a lot of games.

Barnes and Sheppard have shown brilliant flashes early this season. Ojukwu can be a stalwart with more playing time. Ceiling for Smith’s squads’ have historically been limited by turnover propensity. Not sure if this is something that is being adequately addressed in practices, but it seems every year it’s been an issue for the Golden Bears. Solve this and sky’s the limit.

Ojukwu always seems to be in the right place to make a defensive play inside. She isn't as imposing as Onyiah was but shows a lot of skill.

Not only did she have a block and a half per game last year, she also was a force offensively; of her 9 rebounds per game, 53% of these were offensive rebounds, and she scored over 17 points per game, albeit at Morgan State. I imagine she is pumped up about returning to the west, having started her college career in the PAC-12, in 2022 as a freshman at Utah. She’s still got plenty of time to come into her own as a P4 big with, if I’m not mistaken, two years of eligibility remaining after this season.

I can never figure out the eligibility lol. Appreciate the background on her. Size may become more of an issue within ACC play but she looks like a bona fide small-lineup 5 or 4. Offensive rebounds are so important for us whenever our shooting goes kaput.
