Cal Women's Basketball F Gisella Maul Earns USBWA National Player of the Week Award
Two double doubles on the week for the second year Golden Bear
As Gisella Maul continues her ascension as one of the most improved players in the country, the nation is taking notice. The US Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) awarded Maul along with four others with their national player of the week honor after two stellar road games.
Maul averaged 18.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the Bears two road wins at Georgia Tech and Pitt. She also was one of just two players in the country to shoot over 50% from the field (13/23 FG) and from three (on a minimum of 10 attempts, 6/12 3PT).
Addtionally, Maul has also scored in double figures in seven of Cal’s last nine games (where she’s played 31+ minutes each, capped off by a career high 20 points in the steel city.
As Nick eloquently put, Maul has been on a tear by doing a little bit of everything. Shooting, rebounding and defending opposing teams best players has all been on her plate and yet she continues to turn the corner. If there was a ACC Most Improved Player Award, Maul would be in the running for it.
With Cal fighting for a NCAA Tournament bid, they’ll need Maul to continue her stretch of play as the Bears continue their uphill climb.

Congratulations, Gisella, and the team for the great play to make this all happen! Can’t wait to see you play this week!
So great to see Gisella and Cal WBB playing so well!! See you at Haas on Thursday vs Virginia. I don't miss a game at Haas!
