On September 5th, Coach Charmin Smith and I had a chance to catch up on topics ranging from her interactions with the WNBA Valkyries, expectations and challenges the program faces for the upcoming year, and her go-to food choices on Southside.
Coach Smith is a sincere conversationalist who stays away from canned coach-speak when talking about her program. You can hear the excitement in her voice when she talks about being on the court during the Valkyries inaugural season, or the frustration she has when talking about the need for a new locker room, “I’ve been at Cal for 18 years, and it’s the same locker room from when I started 18 years ago…”
The Golden Bears open up their season in Paris on November 3rd, facing the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Aflac Oui-Play 2025 doubleheader.
