I’m coming to terms that I just have to get used to this new paradigm, and not overreact…. Uluave worries me and I think Kendrick is a workhorse, but for every player that leaves that’s an opportunity for someone to come in. Trying to stay calm until things settle out…..

I am not too concerned yet.

In today's reality, it makes perfect sense to enter the portal if either

1) you are a decent player or

2) you are not going to get playing time (tho giving up on cal degree.. dont know about that).

If you are big contributer - you have to enter it. gives you negotiation leverage. Why settle for a mere scholarship when other schools can woo you with $$, which then either Cal matches, beats it or you go somewhere for more money and possibly more playing time.

The only reason JKS didn't enter is because we probably threw huge $$$ at him upfront and probably promised to hype him up for NFL attention.

Also our HC is still coaching. I am excited for the good news once he is in full recruiting mode. I suspect some of these players (who prefer to stay at CAL or don't like the market) will quickly try to come back in the fold once we start giving scholarships to more and more incoming transfers. We only have so many.

Having said all that.. if you don't have a realistic chance of going to NFL... that CAL degree...

Adam Mohammed (Washington) should be visiting. Ranked #5 RB in portal. Cal first stop. Also may visit Texas A&M, Virginia, and maybe Florida. 523 yards, 4.9 YPG, 5 TD last year.

with this news, Tosh might go after all the top RBs..

Also was glad to see Kendrick take hold of starting job this year and was rooting for him.

but in all honesty, not a superstar back and not going to make the league.

if he does indeed leave, hopefully this allows Tosh to sell on playing time to incoming transfers and frosh.

Kendrick did well enough that I’d like to see how he runs behind an effective line. I hope he comes back and we sign another like Mohammed. Many teams have gone to the two-back approach. Kendrick had a ridiculous number of carries in some of the games.

Beginning to wonder if the excitement over Tosh and an overhauled staff might have been a bit over the top. There are a lot of holes to fill and a lot of competition from other teams with big $ and similar holes. Time will tell....

How concerned should we be with the # of transfers (particularly of high quality players)? Seems like this is the new norm but don’t know if it’s slightly worse for us

So far it's more than slightly. If Uluave doesn't come back and the other inside lLB 's and edge rusher/OLB's go then the heart of the defense will be gone.

I’d say mildly concerned. Cal isn’t Iowa State, and there’s still some available high school signees for the traditional signing day as well.

Impossible to say. We get the bad news all up front, but the good news (transfers in) will trickle in over time. I would just say that this is very much expected, but that doesn't make it any less stressful.

We're still assembling our staff so our players haven't really met the coaches they'll be playing for. And this is now the ONLY window; there isn't one in the spring.
