Admirable attempt to vary the verbs: “switches, flips, goes to, moves…”. This reminds me of the old radio sports score recaps where the announcer would say words to the effect of, “…and in baseball the Dodgers beat the Giants 5-4, the Cards routed the Braves 10-zip, the Phillies bested the Cubs 6-3…” and so forth. Ripped, crushed, nipped, clipped, outlasted and more would come over the AM dial that, sadly, is being eliminated in many new vehicles these days due to advancing technology and declining AM listenership among the emerging generations. That is all for now.

Jaydn Ott: number one in your program AND number one in your hearts. (Also will be number one in Heisman votes.)

New shiny helmet is a big upgrade over the flat helmets of recent years. (If this is indeed the case)

I can't remember who wore #1 after Bryce Treggs.

Alex Ghenis's avatar

The last #1 was Melquise Stovall in 2016

Justbear's avatar

Oh Stovall!

So no one wore #1 after him? That's a long time.

Alex Ghenis's avatar

Yep. This is the first time Wilcox has given out a #1

I'm really interested in seeing what Spav does with this new position of "offensive linebacker." I think it has a lot of potential to confuse the hell out of defenses.

"Defensive lineman Ieremia Ieremia goes from 57 to 56." I feel this warrants detailed analysis and discussion. Is there a hidden message? (insert goofy smiling emoji here)...GO BEARS!

5k word report at a minimum!!

And you are the man for the job!

What is an 'offensive linebacker?' ;-)

I played linebacker in High School. Most of my teachers said I was pretty offensive. But I don't think this example is helpful.

What happened with Wide receiver Tommy Christakos, Wide receiver Justin Richard Baker

and Wide receiver Chris Rogers?

Speed, speed we don't need no stinking speed.

In football or rugby if one understands angles their speed increases exponentially. I've observed moderate speed guys play very very fast on the pitch because they understood angles. On offense you set up the defender to take a bad angle, on defense you don't allow yourself to be setup for a bad angle.

In-line speed, meh. Y'all can have it.

I’m really sorry we won’t see Mason Mangum and Mike Luckhurst on the field at the same time….that’s a combo I was looking forward to…. : )

oldenone's avatar

He is a pretty darn good QB and I am happy he will be available should we need him.

Love to see a descendant of Vallejo Vic get some minutes.

Kind of impressive olden.

Ha! Not gonna happen!

Getting closer! Fall camp starts next week, I hear. Ott is surely #1 on the team. Hope he stays hungry and hasn't let it go to his head.

I still want to know who is faster: Jackson or Ott.

I'd watch that race! We both know though that football speed is not track speed. Position specific football speed, especially. I'm an avid rider of motorcycles. Some bikes have low end torque and get going quickly, and others are only OK that way but tear your arms off when they get above 5,000 RPM. Humans are a bit like this. What matters to me is that they can outrun the guy next to them, and they both seem plenty capable of that!

Sportster vs ??

Ha! Guzzi, or HD compared to my S1000XR or any bike with more than 170hp. I was on a closed track, let's say, doing 115mph, and for a moment of acceleration I gave it more twist and was astonished that the bike pulled so hard in 6th gear at that speed that I was doing 130mph in an instant. Inline 4's are rather infamous for having their power high up in the RPM.

Think Usain Bolt. Never the first off the line. But his top speed was way above the competition. My son, 6'4", is no great 100 meter guy, but he can beat most of those top guys in a 400 running a 51 because once he gets up to speed, he's faster than they are.

There are lots of good football players at the skill positions who do not have impressive 100m times. Even recently, Sturdivant had impressive 100m times but I never saw him really pull away from people. Then there are the guys who are crazy fast in the shuttle and 40. Jahvid Best had both abilities. Ott is a long strider. Doubt he is an amazing 40 guy, but if he gets a few strides in, he's gone. I suspect just based on size and type, that Jackson would beat him in a 40 and lose in a 100.
