At 1st I was surprised but it now makes sense to me. Cal alums are NOT willing to just throw money at the administration called Cal football. They are willing to throw money for a specific, earmarked person/purpose to build the program. When Knight did his thing he had the power to cut thru the Oregon red tape….and Oregon’s academics did not get in the way. Times have indeed changed.
