Cal Football Lands First 2027 Commit in DL Giovanni Hodge
The California Golden Bears have a potential first edge talent from the Sacramento region.
It’s fitting that Tosh Lupoi kicks off recruiting success for the 2027 cycle at Cal in the place it all ended for him last time.
Grant edge Giovanni Hodge out of Sacramento decided to make the call to become a California Golden Bear.
Hodge recently visited Cal for Elite Day, where a host of top high school prospects met the new Cal coaching staff. He also visited Cal last fall for the Texas Southern game.
Hodge already held offers from over a dozen programs, including Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Oregon State, San Diego State, UNLV, Washington, and Washington State. Hodge is ranked as the 56th-best defensive lineman and 53rd-best California prospect by 247Sports Composite.
Hodge racked up 41 tackles, 4 sacks and seven tackles for loss for Grant last season. He has the academic bona fides. One of his coaches at Grant is Cal defensive legend Syd’Quan Thompson, his high school alma mater.
Welcome Giovanni!

Players from Grant are usually 4 or 5 star recruits. Great "get" for Lupoi at an essential defensive position.
Great news! Hopefully, we get Troy Bowen a great edge player as well. If Tosh can now recruit and keep the BEST in the WEST at CAL, we will become a force to be reckoned with.
