Horns down! I'm so delighted the sad hubristic folks in that flat featureless state lost that game. Horns down indeed! Also glad Alabama lost, just because. Interesting that no SEC team will be in, and the two teams in are from the North and West.

The winter portal should be eliminated. It's ruining the bowls because so many players are opting out in order to go in the portal. Florida State had over 40 opt outs and played with third and fourth stringers and the game was a farce.

Anyway that's enough Pac-12 After Dark for 2024. It's up to Oregon State and Wazzu to carry that torch. Next week's game is at 4:30.

I'm guessing this win gets us some money and gives Oregon State and Wazzu some cash next year?

Despite the most incredible string of efforts to give Texas 1 more 1 more chance, one of the most lopsided performances I've seen in a long time that still almost ended in the most Texas like steal of a game since the last great steal of a game by Texas, the Dawgs still won on the road.

10 straight by 10 points or less. No team in the poll era had ever won more than 8 until Washington this year. They are one tough bunch; anyone thinking of beating them better be more than 1 score ahead late. I've just seen the Huskies beat 4 opponents in a row by a total of 14 points. That I have never seen before in 58 years around the Pac.

Unconscionably sloppy play by Washington at the end has put this game in jeopardy.

yep. He's playing the way he did against us earlier this year.

He is just so polished. He gets the ball out quickly, avoids pressure, and is ALWAYS looking for a receiver. He always seems in control.

In other words, Penix never panics.

I'm all for Liberty getting beaten as badly as possible. Have no time for a school founded by Jerry Falwell. This is one of two locks among the ball games, the second involving the other Oregon school. It was evident that Notre Dame, suffering far fewer losses, would crush the Beavers.

Liberty should consider putting in the emu mascot. Not school-affiliated but the name is close enough.

Is it just me, or does LSU have 9 guys that would be WR1 at, what, 100 other schools? Yikes…no wonder Daniels won the Heisman.

Happy New Year, Bear fans.

With the PAC 12 gone, the day is simply dominated by the SEC and B1G, which we should probably get used to.

Next year’s CFP will likely include the Champions from the ACC, Big 12, and a G5 team, plus 9 SEC/B1G teams.

How is this landscape sustainable for a school like Cal?

There will be more change coming. I do not expect college football to look the same in 5 years. Truthfully, I expect the college football landscape to be very different in 5 years.

If you're not a blueblood institution, the landscape is not sustainable. I fully expect many current FBS programs to fold their tent or drop to a lower division. Also a possibility is that college football ceases to be a sponsored sport in the fashion it is now.

There's a remarkable amount of money in it now; I expect the money to become even more obscene if that's possible.

The football powerhouses will probably jettison the rest of their conferences and form a football-only league for lots of $$$. Maybe a relegation system or a few playoff spots for lower-tier schools along with some buy games.

Cal and a lot of other schools will end up with streaming-heavy deals of intermediate size. But this is all 2030s stuff. Basically, the landscape isn't sustainable and the status quo is not acceptable and can't be sustained past the current media deals.

I pretty much focus on Cal almost entirely, maintain a vague notion of the PAC, and mostly ignore the rest until bowl season. I don't even know how much to focus on ACC vs. our former conference mates.
