I’ve not liked Nevada since Colin K. shredded us; twice, was it?

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

Drove up to Reno just to watch Kaepernick beat us down. Sigh, not one of the highlights of my Cal fandom.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Yes and I felt the same way. However, balanced against the hype train for SMU, I found myself rooting for Nevada.

I felt badly for Ashton Hayes, even though, if I recall rightly, he had the same dropsies issues when he was, here.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Spoiler alert:

Ashton Hayes’ muffed safe catch on a KO pretty much cost Nevada the game. In his defense, SMU was not outplaying Nevada until the 4th Quarter.

AndyPanda's avatar

The last Mustang TD was clutch, and got the 29-24 win, but SMU barely got out of Reno with this one.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Yep, the Mustangs got corralled and barely escaped.

AndyPanda's avatar

SMU down 17-10 at halftime at Nevada. Mustangs can not run the ball against the Wolf pack D.

we are now tied for 2nd place in the ACC

There goes the DJ for Heisman talk

Go Jackets! So glad a school from Florida lost.

TD_24's avatar

That was a glorious game

I liked it, but wanted FSU undefeated when we play them. They won't be taking anyone lightly now.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Yep.

We just lost the element of surprise.

At this point, I don’t see our DL matching Georgia Tech’s performance. We need to pressure DJU - that’s the secret to any of the stars.

napabear's avatar

I was really hoping to sneak up on FSU. Of course, when we shock Auburn on the road, that would blow our cover a bit. However, if FSU had won today, they would just say to themselves "Auburn must suck, Cal can't do that to us in Tallahassee." Now they'll have their hackles up.

On the upside, perhaps SMU is not the incipient juggernaut that many in the punditosphere wanted you to believe. We'll see.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

*Oski with Elmer Fudd hat sneaks upon War Eagle. Nevada startles Oski, the gun goes off, now, the whole conference is on alert.

Oh, SMU, will keep getting better. They have the talent and a very nervous coach. We'd best be getting better as the season progresses. I'm pretty sure these programs with Alabama-level expectations will not allow the same mistake twice.

And it was torture every time they mentioned that Cal was one of Nevada's few wins in 2021.

napabear's avatar

No sneaking up on anyone at the end of the season. Plus the SMU game is in Texas.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Yeah, true, i figure all the cards are on the table when we play SMU. I was thinking more of Auburn and FSU.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

LOL FSU, maybe you can get your lawyers involved to get out this mess too

GT QB having a hard time with the mesh...

Rugbear's avatar

Either GT is better than advertised or FSU has taken a step back...and DJ isn't doing much for FSU.

I predicted GA Tech would have a good shot to pull the upset, because I did my research. GA Tech has a lot of returning OL talent, a QB with moxy, a firebrand for a head coach, and was on the up trend last year. They’ve now beaten five ranked teams in a row.

Rugbear's avatar

I like their HC...ex o-lineman. Did you watch the game? He was hilarious in the post game interview when he was asked about being a former O-Lineman and now a head coach what his game plan was. He replied,: Run run run!" Hilarious and true to form.

Strut’88's avatar

Yeah, and he had a good tongue in cheek response when the interviewer asked if he was now going to go drink some Guinness. Key said, after a pregnant pause, “no, gonna stick with PowerAde, we’ve got a game next week.” He then winked at the interviewer and went on his way.

AndyPanda's avatar

Based on what I saw, GT was a lot better than most people thought. or at least wanted to believe.

Strut’88's avatar

I knew they’d be good, but I didn’t think they’d be able to do what they did yesterday without being plus a few in turnovers.

WilderThanGene's avatar

the big bad FSU d-line got pushed around on that drive

OldSoCalBear's avatar

tried to watch a bit of college gameday on ESPN, and sat through about 5 minutes of SEC felching before I couldn't stand it any more.

Bowlesman80's avatar

Well, after a Honeymoon of perfunctory praise, the ACC network is pumping the veterans schools of the conference.

I get it.

We're the new girls and we don't want to make the other girls jealous. ;) I'm fine with being underrated, but, we need to prove we're underrated.

Go!

Bears!

College Game Day, Stanfurd Steve:

"The most any FBS team will travel this year is UCLA, because the play LSU."

? We play Auburn, in addition to our regular season travel to the east coast, which, so far as I know, would be farther away than the midwest, where most of the B!G teams are.

Gonna' be innerrestin' watchin' FSU.

Who's watchin' and drinkin', today?

Good to see the Wazzu flag, even across the Pond.

SLAINTE!

GO!

AndyPanda's avatar

UCLA also goes to Hawaii as well as Penn State & Rutgers.

Bowlesman80's avatar

Meh. The mileage has to be pretty close. Stanfurd Steve, pffttt.

DMF's avatar

Is Florida State the U$C of the ACC …. Hated by everyone else?

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Honestly, I think SMU is most similar to $C, both being private, Methodist schools with more money than God.

IMHO, FSU is more like Oregon, proud to a point of blindness, with lots of fans and whale support.

Bhec's avatar

👎...Not even close to USC. Plus, the PAC conf was more competitive in most sports!

Dr. Nadesan Permaul's avatar

One Seminole commentator panned Cal suggesting the Bears are perhaps the worst team in the ACC, predicting a 35-3 blowout when the teams meet.

Stanfurdstinks's avatar

His name is Caleb Sisk. His profile touts all his great credentials but the quality of his analyses are dog sh*t. Did not mention anything about Cal except that we basically suck. Great work Caleb! You're a brilliant sports analyst.

Dr. Nadesan Permaul's avatar

I think he's feeling sick tonight.

DMF's avatar

Same guy said fla state 28-3 over Ga Tech.

Bowlesman80's avatar

We'll see.

FSU fans do like to brag. Do you think the Dr. Pepper "hype train" ad has some of FSU's colors by accident?

Yeah, the ACC gave FSU with us on purpose. We're supposed to be one of their cupcake.

"Throw them Cal to appease them."

BTW- If they really thought they were going steamroll us, then why bother berating us?

Are we berating UC Davis? No, we need to fight for every game.

Nick Saban said it best about early, high rankings being "rat poison."

Let the FSU fans drink the "rat poison" of over confidence.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

hope the players and coaches take us as lightly as a lot of the fans and commentators are
