I wonder how long before Stanford makes a course correction. It's not Coach Troy's fault, if anything, he is over achieving. But the formula is not going to work.
I realize it's fine with Oski Disciple, who I'm surprised has not been spotted on the farm with a can of kerosene and a flare, but I can't imagine even patient Stanford will stand for this for much longer.
This is not the same Penn St team that I watched play USC.
This is the continuing impression I get of Coach Franklin. Better than good teams that can be very good, but cannot play consistently to the potential they have already demonstrated at some point. Ryan Day is only somewhat better at the same thing. Coaching matters, and complete and consistent coaching is elusive as hell.
I, also, consider what I call the Diffusion Effect as the perennial "Big Brands" that have typically dominated in the past now have their depth charts depleted. It's a great equalizing effect and I think we may see the end of the handful of monopolistic football dynasties, such as tOSU.
I doubt this. Penn State is basically the same team it has been under Franklin. Good defense, average offense, wins games against a bunch of overmatched teams and loses games against good teams.
The ACC protecting their chance for a team in the playoffs…but as a representative of what college football should be…I’ll pass on Mario and his “professional” team.
…noted football powerhouse and diploma mill Vanderbilt becomes bowl eligible by winning at Jordan Hare to drop Auburn to 3-6…me thinks that maybe week 2 wasn’t the W we’d hoped it would be.
Wait, so FSU is done when their ACC schedule and finish 1-7? With their only win against Cal and Wilcox? Fire Wilcox. I believe this is now the 3rd time in Wilcox’s illustrious career that he has given a conference opponent their only conference win.
The program is simply spinning its wheels in abject mediocrity so long as Justin Wilcox is in charge.
Meanwhile, noted football powerhouse and diploma mill Indiana is 9-0 after walloping a Jonathan Smith-led Michigan State team in East Lansing…shocker, coaching matters.
He’s a helluva coach….and is just an example of what can happen.
There are plenty of Wilcox apologists that justify his continued employment by saying quality coaches won’t come to Cal. Schools like Indiana and Vandy winning blows that argument.
Also, he takes all the attention off the players and puts it all on him. I think there's a functional efficiency where he stomps out the limelight bullshit that can distract players from their job.
In his Auburn POW presser, SJV talked about the onerous burden of traveling 2 hours to Atlanta for "decent" shopping. Coaches can often influence and set priorities.
In a clip, Saban basically implies that a player was content to be a "mediocre" person and that he, Saban, wanted only excellent people around him. Harsh, cold, and inspiring, like forged iron itself.
I know chances are he’s back no matter what because of Knowlton’s continued presence and the $20M cost to cut ties with both, but if that L leaves us at 5-7 and home for December, I dunno….the conversations are going to be very interesting…
into other fan base minds, I don’t find this season of win after win on a victorious march to the playoffs, particularly “exciting”. I am too conditioned for endless seasons of struggle and futility as a badge of true honor and perseverance.
horrid Penn State red zone performance today
More like business as usual for Penn States offense when playing OSU or any good team.
Stanford IS in trouble. 300 yards conceded, Bailey with an 88% completion rate
You love to see it.
They take a big gamble on fourth down in their own territory and for the moment they are back in the game.
Like I said, for the moment.

Yeah, I agree with all this. Perhaps Wilcox can hire Taylor as his OC.
Do you think TT will be successful as HC at Cal?
Good question. Hard to tell with Furd's transfer portal policy.
It's more than fine, it's glorious.
Ohio State might be in trouble
"Not so fast"
Watching Ohio St and Penn St does not give me the impression I'm watching top 4 football.
Drew Allar is not a good QB and Will Howard is average.
Allar is the perfect Franklin QB, puts up big stats and wins against overmatched teams, loses and plays bad against good teams.
This is not the same Penn St team that I watched play USC.

I doubt it, at least in total. There is the too big (and resource rich) to fail effect. But the blood bath in the middle is definitely getting bigger.
Every week that FSU loses, it’s another loss for Wilcox and Cal.
If Wilcox gifts FSU’s only win of the season…Idk if my psyche can handle that haha. Charleston Southern please do something funny haha.
Bad. Loss.
Pro, since no other place to post today.
Second quarter Detroit in a rainy Green Bay.
Jared Goff seems to have learned to handle the ball in rain.
Can here to say exactly this. Represent.
End of 3rd, 15 of 17 in the rain.
On the other side, Chris Brooks had 2 carries and 3 receptions.
Furd getting clobbered by NC State was the highlight of my weekend. This is the year to run up the score on the Tree!
When Oregon played in the PAC they had close games and some loses. Look at them now: without Bo Nix. I guess the PAC wasn’t so soft after all…..lol
Miami still getting away with friendly non-calls, in the most rrecent case for a personal foul as a head- hunting LB punches a Duke runner.
*crickets
The ACC protecting their chance for a team in the playoffs…but as a representative of what college football should be…I’ll pass on Mario and his “professional” team.
Cal will not lose this weekend. The pressure is off. I can watch football stress-free.
KJ: I feel the same way! Cal fandom is not for the faint of heart.
And yet, Cal missed a FG
Or maybe: they did not make a single FG when it mattered again!
Wilcox will find a way to lose
It’s true. My heart needs this bye week to recover.
Coaching matters, part II….
…noted football powerhouse and diploma mill Vanderbilt becomes bowl eligible by winning at Jordan Hare to drop Auburn to 3-6…me thinks that maybe week 2 wasn’t the W we’d hoped it would be.
Loved seeing SC lose to a mediocre UW. F&ckers.

TOSU is on the horizon for Cigniana. We shall see.

I wish we could hire Saban as a consultant.
November 1, 2025 Zoom “consultant” call:
So, Justin, ahem, let’s talk about the last four games and what we talked about prior to each one.
*breaks headphones
Yeah, Saban is a gentleman when he needs to be, but a demanding task master to get those wins.
smu looks scary
was just going to say the game in Dallas might be ugly
Yup, Wilcox could get boat raced there.
If so, leave him in Dallas.
I know chances are he’s back no matter what because of Knowlton’s continued presence and the $20M cost to cut ties with both, but if that L leaves us at 5-7 and home for December, I dunno….the conversations are going to be very interesting…
Agree
A fg in Provo loss to an unbeaten team away from unbeaten. The new Pony Express is running circles around a good Pitt team.
Don't look now, but Go Bruins!?
Go Bruins never
I was shocked that they beat Rutgers and Nebraska.
Can’t get behind the Ducks
I can. Go Ducks!
Agree. As I usually project my own views
into other fan base minds, I don’t find this season of win after win on a victorious march to the playoffs, particularly “exciting”. I am too conditioned for endless seasons of struggle and futility as a badge of true honor and perseverance.
Tez Johnson injury could be the biggest development of the day and month.
All American WR & PR out indefinitely with a shoulder or collarbone injury.
Pedo State offense scored 6 points and was 0-2 in the red zone.
