SMU up 28-9 over FSU. This makes last weeks loss feel even worse. We should have beaten FSU the way SMU currently is. DJU didn’t play great last week but he looked better against us than he has against SMU.
Not on DJ, in my opinion. His tight end can’t f’ing catch the ball. This has happened in multiple games, and this time the TE botched it right into the hands of an SMU defender.
Comes from the practice of sacrificing an animal in Roman times and having the entrails examined by the high priest. If they were clean it was deemed that the auspices were favorable. Auspicious therefore means favorable.
USC thumps Wisconsin 38-21. The Trojans had Michigan beat, and literally let it slip through their arms, on that long run that they had wrapped up but let slip. Wisconsin found out it is not good to get the Trojans in the Coliseum when they are mad.
Not to be outdone by the ACC, the B1G has now gotten in on protecting the brand officiating with a game deciding call at the end. WWE officials must envious. Because of an irrational "not reviewable" rule, at least the replay official wasn't involved.
If you are only looking at the low res web clips, then it is easy to think that there wasn't enough evidence to overturn. But the front angle shows the ball bobbing around, and the side angle in high res also shows some movement. Also that same angle, it shows that the Miami defender did not strip the VT receiver. The VT receiver was trying to make an adjustment on the ball but the defender had his hand so he ended up knocking the ball into the Miami defenders lap.
The other factor is that the defender was out of bounds and all it takes is for the defender to touch the ball while out of bounds before the completion is established for the ball to be dead. And my understanding of the rules is that the completion is not established until the receiver maintains possession through contact with the ground. So I think the refs just needed to see evidence of the Miami defender with his hand on the ball while out of bounds, which there was plenty of evidence for.
Admittedly, I am a little biased because I want them to be undefeated when they play us next week on the very slim change we get Gameday. But I also think it was the right call. Never should have been called a touchdown in the first place, and there was enough evidence to overturn in the replay, it just took some good clear angles to see it.
UCLA with a miserable effort in the Rose Bowl. 180 total yards to 440 for the Ducks. Now they have to cut the Calimony check.
That Bama/Georgia game was exciting. What a finish.
Probably not exactly how they drew it up, but I think the rest of the country found out what those in the west knew, Kalen DeBoer can coach.
It is looking more and more likely that FSUs only conference win will be against us. How fitting for Wilcox.
Wow and Bama is back in the lead!
Holy shit Georgia
Holy shit bama

GO BEARS
Why does this announcer on the Furd game keep referring to “auspicious” field position? Don’t. think I’ve heard that term before.
Means favorable.

Yeah, I just hadn’t heard it used in that context before.
What in the world was Furd thinking??
So if you’re keeping up hope for GameDay at Cal, this week’s results have been pretty much perfect:
Miami wins.
Washington loses.
Arkansas loses.
Ole Miss loses, probably pushing Miami higher up the rankings. Might be top 5 after the Georgia-Alabama result.
Note for Big Game:
Daniels likes to throw interceptions.
ACC officials ridin’ for the brand. Not rooting for Furd, but I have seen the movie, before.

Once USC stopped turning the ball over this game was over. Fickell is struggling at Wisconsin right now.
Auburn NOOOO!!!!!
Couldn't close it out.
It was in Auburn but yes, they couldn’t close it out.
Snatched defeat from…
Don’t look now but Colorado quietly improving and looking to go 4-1.
I don't think I would consider a 48-21 Buff stomping of an undefeated league foe on the road as "quiet".
Quiet compared to the media hype from last season.

Auburn is playing Oklahoma tough.
Not missing Sam Jackson’s decision making —in again for Auburn
As a QB?
FYI for College Gameday hopes, you will want to root for Texas A&M
Lots of commentary on the VT catch. Most agree that VT was robbed.

Future opponent update
NC State 24, Northern Illinois 17, Final
Syracuse 42, Holy Cross 14, final
NC state is not a good team at all. Cal should be favored to win that game.
Syracuse is going to be tough. McCord is playing great.
I wish we could have kept Spav as our OC.
Maybe we can hire him back next season once Aranda is fired at Baylor.
That bridge is likely burned.
Bummer because the only time Cals offense has looked competent over the last decade has been while Spav was our OC.
You might say the same of what Bloesch has done for the Oline.
It looked good in 2015 with Franklin too.
