Egads, Minnesota, Cal’s best W by far, absolutely whacked today 41-3 by an Iowa team allergic to scoring points.

Mendoza is now the betting favorite to win the Heisman on Fanduel.

Let's get Cignetti and Mendoza to Cal.

That Cignetti OL is ridiculous. He’s got all the time in the world in the pocket.

So happy that JW started a WR and a G5 QB in front of a future Heisman Trophy winner.

That alone and constantly trying to replace Mendoza with someone else are reasons why I am not mad at Mendoza for leaving

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Can’t argue with that, though personally I will root against Mendoza for life for quitting on the team during the regular season and sitting out at SMU under the guise of an illness, and then sabotaging Cal’s recruitment of JKS, than I am with him transferring.

The transfer to Indiana to play under Cignetti with his brother is a no-brainer. Doing things to actively hurt the Cal program is entirely different, IMO.

Dear Baby Oski, in your little golden baby diapers, please fire Wilcox and hire Sean Lewis from SDSU

Please; young, creative, will help keep JKS/Ulave.

Whatever it takes before the portal opens, bowl eligible or not.

I can’t believe how fast and far Wisconsin has fallen. They said went 11 quarters without scoring a single point and finally scored a TD in the 4th quarter against Oregon

SDSU beats Fresno State 23-0 to improve to 6-1. This is SDSUs 3rd shutout this season, they have now shutout Stony Brook, Cal and Fresno State

Fresno State is being blanked by San Diego State, but only by 13-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Should Cal move to Mountain West?

Let me answer that. NO. But should Justin Wilcox move to Mountain West? YES.

16-0 now. Cal should hire Sean Lewis of SDSU to replace Wilcox

He should be very high on any list of potential candidates.

Be a great hire,

What are the chances tho that Cal will move with the urgency and resolve needed to hire anyone of substance?

AndyPanda's avatar

Why would "anyone of substance" rush to Berkeley when there are better options, and more are on the way?

Tosh2.0's avatar

Great question. The athletic department should definitely start forming some committees to assess the feasibility of making a leadership change in the football program.

Brutal loss yesterday. I think Wilcox’s odds of surviving to next year fell by half or more

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

More.

He will not be the Travers Family Head Football Coach next year.

There is no longer any hiding how completely overmatched he is at this level.

Even the Cal Apologists know.

Wilcox apologist have been awfully quiet this season, even in wins they haven’t been very vocal

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

There are still a few Calgorithm folks on Twitter that continue to lash out at people they view as “negative”.

But last night’s embarrassing defensive collapse on national TV where they were repeatedly powerless to stop the most basic rushing concepts, while continuing to drop passes and commit OL penalties, was rather damning.

Need UNC to take Virginia apart

Well they didn't and I'm glad. Didn't need UVA taking their frustrations out on us next week.

It doesn't matter. We were outmatched by Virginia Tech. Even an overconfident Virginia can easily take us down.

It won’t matter. As long as Wilcox is our HC Virginia will be just fine

Virginia’s had a few close calls. It would be infuriatingly, hilariously Wilcoxian for him to pull a rabbit out of a hat in some gouge-your-eyes-out rock fight before going on the road and getting absolutely obliterated by Louisville.

Oski Disciple's avatar

It would be quite Wilcoxian to beat UVA and lose all the rest. My wager is that he has one last win in him. If so I hope he saves it for the Big Game, but with him, who knows.

He’s generally been gifted dumpster fire furd teams. Unfortunately, this furd team looks competitive. If he goes 0-2 the next two games, I’m hoping it’s RR coaching the big game.

When you see schools like Indiana and Duke turn it around as quickly as they have and execute as efficiently on O, you realize just how awful of a Power 5 Head Coach Justin Wilcox actually is.

That he has gotten 9 years is a testament to staggering incompetence.

Justbear's avatar

And it's not like they are loaded with 5* players that we can only dream about. Their QB is our own Fernando.

Geoff Wahl's avatar

And he left because Indiana offered him $2mil and paid his remaining UC academic costs. The mass exodus of good players was due to money and the hiring of all new coaches especially Harsin (the O coordinator). We were left with really poor talent especially in the D backfield and OLB.

And people would always say, “No way could a Duke or Indiana have a really good football program”. It can happen and is at numerous dead in the water programs (Georgia Tech, Indiana, Duke, Tulane, Virginia, etc). One thing for sure is that it won’t happen with Wilcox as head coach.

I can’t believe that Wilcox has gotten 9 years. He is one of the longest tenured HCs at Cal and he hasn’t won anything of merit or even a single season with a winning conference record to earn those 9 years.
