On another note. I feel terrible that Oakland has lost the Raiders, Warriors and now Athletics. I feel terrible for all the fans of those teams.

With that being said, it is time for Cal athletics to try to step up and turn Oakland and the entire East Bay truly into Bear Territory. Do major outreach to residents and fans of those teams to come to Memorial and it starts this Saturday. One town, one team. Get these fans to embrace and support all Cal athletics but especially Cal football and basketball!!

Just WIN and they will come

GoldenSD81's avatar

Well that winning part has been hard for Cal so we need to do both. Win and outreach.

Like I said before, as soon as they said my wife was having labor induced on October 5th, I knew this would happen.

How are you going to be at two places at the same time?

If she’s a bigger fan than you, it’d be good to have something for her to be distracted with. But you’re not allowed to be distracted…

Wiata78's avatar

Thank you for your support!

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Ya, gonna need you to have her induced for the next kiddo on January 1 2026….in Pasadena?

Cal can claim 61 Nobel prizes between faculty and alumi, Miami only 4. So my score prediction will be 61-4 and it's already happened!

Dropping in here as a Berkeley Law alum, but hardcore Husky fan…I love this so much for Cal. And feeling a little proud.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Obviously Marshawn Lynch should be there on Game Day.

azlefty's avatar

Just to say he is there so he doesn't get fined.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Marshawn should absolutely ride onto the set on a golf cart!

TKE Prytanis 79's avatar

It would be an apex moment!!!!

TKE Prytanis 79's avatar

Maybe this now explains the silence from Cal Athletics etc...working in the background and not wanting mess it up...and it explains the Chancellor's reaction as well.. So Great! Go Bears!!!!!

TKE Prytanis 79's avatar

I’ve spent more time on Twitterx the last few days than in the last decade(I was an early adopter and then bailed). I can only hope that the intense, creative and just funny Cal presence there had some impact on this…hope we get some feedback on that it did. Sadly I’m not making the game next week but will be in the mountains with about 10 Cal alums…we’ll be up early and stay up late….so glorious…my heart is full. GO BEARS!!!!!

Rob Hwang's avatar

The how it happened will be shared more later. But just know. They noticed.

azlefty's avatar

Hopefully the mountain you speak of is Tightwad Hill

TKE Prytanis 79's avatar

God I wish...an annual retreat with childhood friends, most of them Cal alums. We even strategized driving back for the game but it would be a load...ugh!

Calgorithm uber alles!

It still sucks that the Pac-12 fell apart, but the ACC has been such a massive boon for Cal football media coverage. I don't think this happens without three straight weeks on ESPN networks to help build visibility, along with all the Twitter memes of course. And yes, Miami needed to do their part. But just thinking about the old ways . . . even one of those games being stuck on Pac-12 Network probably stalls the momentum. And now we're here!

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Happy to throw off the chains of $C oppression and bullying of the conference.

It's going to take a loooong time for me to recover after this one.

CalBear91's avatar

OH MY OSKI! I'll be there for it too! I sure as hell hope they don't just focus on hippies and funk but profile the amazing diversity, academics and culture of the finest public school and among the finest universities in the entire world! Go Bears! I'm thinking of making a sign that screams our number of Nobel prizes...

McAfee might be especially insufferable 🙃

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Last week, he made a joke about being in a library for the first time.

Yes. It is a feather in the Bears cap that GameDay will be coming to Berkeley. I hope that all the students are ready for a 5am wake up call to show their support and show the nation what CAL is all about. The school, students and alumni, fans in general and especially the TEAM will have a very long day in anticipation for a 730pm game against Miami that will be probably to a Top 5 team in the nation by tomorrow.

BearlyThere's avatar

I just hope we fill the stadium. With our fans. But then yes I’d love some 5:00am pro Cal nuttiness.

Macarolina's avatar

Thankful for and proud of all those who made this happen, including the awesome team, coaches, AMAZING calgorithm feeders, and Cal leadership. I’ve already had east coast friends texting me about it- definitely massive for Cal. GO BEARS!

Memorial Glade will look like this:

Maybe the aroma will be similar also…

One word.Terrific.

And chancellor Lyons issuing an official statement is icing on the cake.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

He is a breath of fresh air and I am afraid the contrast to Christ will be sharp and make clear the mere lip service of support by the previous regime.

goldenone's avatar

Also his business acumen should make him a successful fundraiser and help greatly with integrating NIL into the athletic programs.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

I have long thought that we should tap into the on-campus talent maybe working with a professional for some sort of inter-disciplinary practicum course credit. Students get experience and mentorship from a pro(s) and/or existing professor(s) in the field.

Heino's avatar

Will Pat McAfee spontaneously combust once he hits the Berk city limits?

Bowlesman 80's avatar

I wonder if he talks about it with ARod on Tuesday.

AndDriveDriveDrive's avatar

The team essentially gets a do-over to prove itself on the national stage. These sorts of chances don’t happen often.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Are you referring to the first time it was planned for Cal?

mrjpark's avatar

I'm pretty sure he's referring to last week.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Miami would be a tough "do-over," but, if:

1. we win the line of scrimmage

2. the run game opens

3. the D contains the explosive plays Cam Ward makes

we may pull off the upset.

We shall see.

The fans and players need to come out with their hair on fire.
