Another random possibility is Andy Samberg- grew up in Berkeley, lifelong 49ers fan, made an early Lonely Island movie called Football Town.

Also Lonely Island did the The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience experience.

It'll probably be Marshawn (if he can keep his mouth in PG-13 Mode) or Goff. Jeff Tedford wouldn't be too bad, either, assuming his health is good.

The greatest tight end that ever lived and who is on television every week seems like a safe choice

Would love to see Colin

I think the house of Disney is afraid of Beastmode so maybe he makes a short guest appearance?

Aaron has become a bit weird so not sure about that. Plus doesn’t he have a game to prepare for?

Jason Kidd would be pretty amazing too

Not for picker, but maybe a CRSPR package with a football mashup analogy like conference reconfigurations. Is that Cal nerd or what, ha.

My vote is Marshawn because he is uniquely loved in our minds and the minds of the football public. My second would be Goff, just as another home town boy who has done great recently and would be articulate about Why Cal? My dark horses would be Alex Mack or Cam Jordan. It's all good!

Check out Pat MacAfee show. ARod drops some names, Top Dog, Blondies, La Birrita, as well as love for Cal.

MacAfee seems obsessed about California being dangerous and full of murderers. LOL

What prompted ARod to bring up Scott Petersen out of left field to set McAfee off?

Expand full comment

Well, it was only after MacAfee went through a laundry list of California killers; Zodiac, Night Stalker, Hillside Strangler to name a few. ARod offered, to the theme of weird California killers and after he mentioned the Berkley Doubletree being near the pier, the same pier Scott Peterson used to dump his wife's body.

Fun Fact: Scott and Lacy were customers at our swimming pool store, which was less than 10 blocks from the house where he later murdered her.

No, go back and watch. They’re talking about all the time between Gameday and when the game starts. ARod brings up Scott Petersen then McAfee goes off on Zodiac, etc. And McAfee could at least worry about something from this century.

Around 1:36, Berkeley enters the conversation.

Oops, okay, you're right, Rodgers brings up the Peterson murder and the Berkeley Marina, after discussing Doubletree and the cookies.

More than likely it will be Lynch or Goff. Both of them would be great choices. Goff might be better in terms of recruiting as he is an active player. Lynch would be great for entertainment and east bay roots.

I don't know. Goff is awesome but he's just one of the starting QBs in the NFL. Lynch is a retired but has more fans than Goff.

Goff is better known now in Midwest/East and with younger fans- I agree on recruiting front he may be more bang for buck as our picker. Plus most of east coast doesn’t know Goff went to Cal, would be great to make that connection (same with Tony G). But I REALLY hope Marshawn is given a couple special highlights throughout the show, sorta like a certain celebrity at the Olympics.

1. Goff , 2 Lynch, 3 Morikawa. They are the most known nation wide.

A couple of the cast from "Oppenheimer". They could do an SNL type skit!

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Josh Hartnett.

Shane Vereen, who was the PAC-12 Network’s go-to guy on game days, wouldn’t be a bad choice. But I think the options for most entertaining come down to Marshawn, Lawrence Ross (Cal Superfan who’s been a very entertaining guest on Locked On ACC), Chris Pine and finally, tho’ it could be a lightning rod and he might say something incendiary-Aaron Rodgers. But I love Jared Goff and would be happy for him to be featured. He might actually be insightful on how Cal can overcome its inconsistency on offense. But I’m just stoked for the pageantry featuring Cal and likely will be happy with whoever is chosen.

Why wouldn't it be Marshawn? This can only be good for Beastmode as well as good for Cal. I gotta think also, if Jared ain't busy on Saturday he's likely taken notice of this once in a football era situation for his alma mater. And of course we can chant like they did in Ann Arbor. My money is on BOTH showing up!

I'm pretty sure Goff will be visiting if he has a bye week.
