I think there was pretty lackluster reaction to the live threads on CGB this season - a lot of the discourse is on twitter. I think the team will be evaluating what threads will go on as we go forward - a lot of this is adjustment.
Football live threads are not going away. I think there will be a lot of discussion (and suggestions welcome!) about how to handle basketball next season. WFC is definitely an evolving product.
Minimum was 5 years, so sentence was up near top of range. And he still will be charged in LA. Glad to see him go down! Curious whether this serves as re-education of jury pool in America vis a vis what rape/sexual assault looks like
It's good and I really, really like it. But, the Amazing Mrs. Maisel is some of the best writing, acting, and character development that I've seen in a long time. I think Sex Education is up there, too.
I quite enjoyed Amazing Mrs. Maisel, it's a lot of fun, and the acting is quite good, but some of the characters are way too broad to be taken seriously (it is mainly a comedy with serious bits)
Am I missing something or is it not called Marvelous Mrs. Maisel everywhere?
Anyways, the character development is quite good but the dialogue often leans too hard into a staged whirlwind of wit. It's fun the first few times but feels overused later on. Season 4 also had too many airy musical performances that just kind of took up space.
It is Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. To me it has an feeling of artifice, which is not bad, per se, (I'm a big Wes Anderson fan) but I know what you mean about a "staged whirlwind of wit" - but I just roll with it.
I could see criticism of the characters always landing on their feet, even in divorce, the Maisel's are happy and get along. So there doesn't ever seem to be lasting consequences or true affliction. I agree it is a comedy with serious bits. It is a heady comedy though, which I guess is my favorite kinds. I also really liked HBO's Bored to Death.
Sex Ed is also comedy with serious bits. Lots of likeable characters and hilarious situations and good character development. I highly recommend it.

I don't know if HP is a guilty pleasure. But I honestly don't think they're well-written and that JK Rowling wasn't very emotionally mature when she wrote them. A lot of the characters are just...meh. This is one of the cases where I found the movies to be better.
I think they peak in the middle. There's a million things to criticize about JKR, but she's a gifted story teller who had a great idea. (I did find her non-HP writing to be pretty mediocre though)
George Lucas should stop amending his work because he's just terrible at it. IIRC, his wife is the one who cut out all his BS and made the original Star Wars trilogy watchable. The prequel trilogy was him w/out his wife, and we all saw what happened there.

I enjoyed "Bring It On", the 2000 movie about competitive high school cheerleading starring Kirsten Dunst.
My wife caught me watching it on cable on day. It was fun, especially since I came from a competitive singing background. To this day, my wife uses it as a synonym for something that superficially looks sketchy and needs explaining.
BB: Cal wins back-and-forth game vs. SJSU, 9-8. Grant Holman leaves game after getting HBP in face. Cal starts stretch of conference games with 5-11 standing (1-0 conference).
Technically, that home win over Stanford is considered a non-conference game. The 3-game series that will count for the conference standing is scheduled for The Farm, so they always scheduled a midweek game (used to be a few games spread out through the season) at the other venue.
MGolf: Jamie Cheatham with super 3rd day, comes in 3rd. Cal slips to fourth as a team, not because they did poorly in the final day - but because some teams had exceptional 3rd rounds.

Not to detract from our crumbling democracy, but on my run this morning I saw a big placard on a car's dash. I slowed and it was for the Reuters White House news photog. I wonder if it was the guy who took the picture in the article.
okay, honestly, some of those Bernie supporters are getting wound up by external actors. We saw how the 2016 election was influenced by Bots and trolls from Russia and we should expect the same thing today.
If you find yourself getting angry, think about who benefits from making you angry.
They just closed their (pretty successful) Shanghai branch for good. The restaurant business is hard - they were filled and busy for 18 straight months - three bad months and I'll never get to order a juicy lucy on yuyuan road again.
Are we not doing live game threads anymore? The Bears are off to a hot start against the trees in potentially the last game of the year.
Icing Furd out of the Big Dance would be the cherry on top
I think there was pretty lackluster reaction to the live threads on CGB this season - a lot of the discourse is on twitter. I think the team will be evaluating what threads will go on as we go forward - a lot of this is adjustment.
I can definitely see that argument. Basketball threads in particular have been moribund but even football threads saw decreased participation.
But on the other hand, I don't like Twitter and I don't want an account.
Football live threads are not going away. I think there will be a lot of discussion (and suggestions welcome!) about how to handle basketball next season. WFC is definitely an evolving product.

I just started with Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. Cute, silly, often poignant, and sometimes laugh out loud funny.
I quite enjoy it too, and I think it will mature and get even better
Better Call Saul is the best show on TV these days.
It's good and I really, really like it. But, the Amazing Mrs. Maisel is some of the best writing, acting, and character development that I've seen in a long time. I think Sex Education is up there, too.

It's clearly the intentional, established style of the show. You like it or you don't, but it's not a mistake.
I could see criticism of the characters always landing on their feet, even in divorce, the Maisel's are happy and get along. So there doesn't ever seem to be lasting consequences or true affliction. LOVED Bored to Death, watched it twice.
Maisel has a very good cast and the dialogue is great, but the plots linger a little too much for my tastes

Rank 'em: gnocchi, tortellini, risotto, fettuccini (all made fresh)
Risotto, then gnocchi. After that, meh? Fettuccini is definitely better than tortellini.
I am now kind of upset at how many people here don't like gnocchi.
I enjoy it when it's really well made. In Milan, obviously, I found a couple of places that had really good gnocchi and risotto.
Palo Alto has REALLY good Italian food. A bit pricey, but Italico on University has amazing risotto and gnocchi. A little cheaper is Terun. If you want something a little away from the main streets, Caffe Riace is really underrated.
I always expect gnocchi to taste better than they actually do
Tortellini (fillings FTW)
Risotto (small pieces = more sauce flavor)
Fettuccini (twirling it around a fork is fun)
Gnocchi (only if I must)
1. risotto
2A. tortellini
2B. fettuccine ( I mean, I guess you go with stuffed first, but the sauce is really what counts)
4. gnocchi
1. risotto
2. tortellini
3. fettuccini
...
1,000,000,000. gnocchi
Yes to all...why do I have to choose?
1) gnocchi1a)risotto 3) Fettuccini
4) tortellini
@tortellinis are just skinny won tons.@
1) gnocchi
2) tortellini

not exactly guilty but...

- Dark Angel
I don't know if HP is a guilty pleasure. But I honestly don't think they're well-written and that JK Rowling wasn't very emotionally mature when she wrote them. A lot of the characters are just...meh. This is one of the cases where I found the movies to be better.

My $0.02 is that they stopped editing her as rigorously in the latter books because she was a superstar. And her writing benefits from editing.
Deathly Hollows is SUCH A SLOG
Yeah, I think it was lightning in a bottle. She created an amazing world. She just fell short on execution IMHO.
(And she should definitely stop amending her work. She and George Lucas)
George Lucas should stop amending his work because he's just terrible at it. IIRC, his wife is the one who cut out all his BS and made the original Star Wars trilogy watchable. The prequel trilogy was him w/out his wife, and we all saw what happened there.

well, you expect the Chinese government to do repressive behavior at scale and I suspect that most people who don’t speak Cantonese or Mandarin aren’t attuned to what’s being said (or ellided) on social media.... as opposed to seeing something that got run through google translate posted to Facebook. Probably yes.

Hey, I'm at ease now. Jared is studying the matter!
Not to detract from our crumbling democracy, but on my run this morning I saw a big placard on a car's dash. I slowed and it was for the Reuters White House news photog. I wonder if it was the guy who took the picture in the article.

They just closed their (pretty successful) Shanghai branch for good. The restaurant business is hard - they were filled and busy for 18 straight months - three bad months and I'll never get to order a juicy lucy on yuyuan road again.
