Welcome to the DBD, a W4C community board where one can talk about pretty much anything, like…
Hand
[Cleveland, OH]: “Judy’s Hand Pavilion is a writ large representation of the hand of the artist’s [Tony Tasset] wife, who is a celebrated contemporary abstract painter. Indulging in the pleasures of verisimilitude, scale, and a lustrous finish, the work critically examines the artistic traditions of appropriation, pathos, and pleasure. Brightly colored, richly narrative, playful yet satirical, the artist is best known for his large-scale sculptures that draw from the visual language of American roadside advertising.”
I worked as a substitute teacher in the distant past. In terms of the respect you are afforded it's a notch above being a wharf rat. Does have the advantage of no lesson planning or grading but the work day can be extremely boring (if you're lucky) or a portal into the worst of human behavior.
My paternal grandmother was a credentialed teacher who subbed and also took home teaching assignments with BUSD into her late 70s. She was also a certified WSI, which was very unusual for a woman in her generation.
Since SGBear is off entertaining himself, I think we should tell the substitute that we're in the middle of watching a movie in class, the more inappropriate the better
Thing
Reminds me of this sculpture that I used to run by regularly before they moved it.

Also the model name of a motor vehicle manufactured by Volkswagen in the 1970s, IIRC.
The hand in the photo at top reminds me of Thing from The Addams Family.

OUR CRUMBLING DEMOCRACY
Was wondering people's thoughts on the impact of Trump being removed from a few states ballots via 14th amendment challenges?
it is just for the Republican primary right? presumably he will still get enough delegates to win the nomination.
it would be MUCH BIGGER DEAL if left off the election ballot. but i guess that is down the road only if he gets nomination?
i cant imagine that would actually stand. the Trump nominated Supreme Court would surely come to his rescue.
My understanding of the Colorado one is that the request was barred from primary, but the ruling seems like barred altogether.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
I worked as a substitute teacher in the distant past. In terms of the respect you are afforded it's a notch above being a wharf rat. Does have the advantage of no lesson planning or grading but the work day can be extremely boring (if you're lucky) or a portal into the worst of human behavior.

"... it's a notch above being a wharf rat."
BINGO!
Subbed for three years. If I had not gone on to get a credential and a permanent assignment, I never would have continued.
Since SGBear is off entertaining himself, I think we should tell the substitute that we're in the middle of watching a movie in class, the more inappropriate the better
I hear "Human Centipede" is a great selection for Biology when a substitute is present.
and here I was thinking about the film version of Midsummer Night's Dream where Judi Dench is topless, apparently not ambitious enough
