The seven-day week is thought to have originated with the ancient Babylonians, who divided the 28-day lunar cycle into four weeks. The Babylonians chose seven days because the number seven was significant to them, representing the seven major celestial bodies they observed: the Sun, the Moon, and the five planets visible to the naked eye
