Warriors play the Kings tonight. 2nd game of an 8 game homestand. They really need to do well to try to move up in the standing. At least Melton and Horford seem to be more healthy and playing better. And fewer back to backs so they should be able to play most games.

I watched the last couple of min and was shocked that the Ole Miss QB got them down the field for even a chance at a non-hail mary play for a TD. I think they had like 25 seconds to go 75 yards.

I think LSU decided they didn't want to touch him with a 10 foot pole after the way he announced entering the transfer portal and didn't want to give him more money.

I had heard the part of his representative dropping him when he entered the portal.

Yeah I heard that too. You probably did something bad if your agent feels the need to drop you.

Ya think? The agent dropping Williams signaled 1) there's unethical stuff happening here and 2) the client obviously doesn't need me because he ignored my advice.

Not necessarily in that order.

my guess is that the economics and realities of the portal and transfers allows other teams w/o the traditional recruiting advantages to have more than a fighting chance.

i guess that is the only hope for Cal ...

if IU wins then it will be my wife's two colleges head to head for the title.

she went to Miami for one year, and they won (split) the championship that yr, 1991.

then she transferred to IU (long story)

My sister went to IU (Classics '90) and took me to my first football game. IIRC Jeff George led the Illini past a Hoosiers team led by RB Vaughn Dunbar. Her favorite part was the halftime show. I texted her last week to ask whether she was aware of what was happening with IU football and she had no idea. She'll be watching tonight.

Wow Jeff George. Another in a line of disappointing Raiders QBs. He did have some success but never took them to the promise land. He just seemed like another Raider QB that Al Davis loved because he had a cannon.

i took a few Classics courses at IU. after majoring in Classics at Cal i wanted to keep going w/ Ancient Greek. i did it for a year or two until i discovered there was a nascent program to teach Sanskrit. and so i did that instead for a couple years.

I started out as a Classics major but switched to Latin after two semesters of Greek. I got fed up with the middle voice and everything being irregular. Sanskrit sounds like it could be very interesting

The couple who own the unit above me work at IU. The husband is going to be here teaching at their DC program this semester. IU just bought a building to accommodate their students and programs here. The building is just a block from the Cal DC building. The couple know what’s going on with the football program but I don’t think they’re particularly fans.

i am about to purchase my first set of XC skis as a way to prove i am really a Vermonter now. i have done it a handful of times and literally spend about 33% of the time on the ground or trying to figure out how to stand back up again.

this is quite humbling because i am other what most people would call an expert downhill skier.

after some discussion w/ a couple helpful sales people, going w/ some classic touring skis that have a metal edge. the metal edge is supposed to help when not on Nordic tracks as well as help people like me have a little more turning control on the descents.

let me know if anyone has any thoughts or advice.

It’s been decades since I skied. You used to be able to get xc bindings that you could lock down for more of a downhill feel if desired.

XC can be humbling. In an earlier life I lived in Anchorage which is a big XC area. My cousins were on the ski teams and my uncle was with the ski club. At some point I jumped in and tried a race. I was getting passed by old ladies and had to literally crawl up one short, steep hill. Pretty quickly decided to stick to running, even during the winter. It was long ago and I was so inept any thoughts or advice would be counterproductive.

In ken coopers original Aerobics book, the highest conditioning was found in xc skiers. Distance runners were second.

question actually about AV equipment.

here is what my wife currently does, she gets on a zoom or facetime w/ the friend on phone or laptop to workout together. one person shares the screen of the video they are working out to and the other person joins along.

what i would like is that this all happened on a TV or larger screen so the picture size is much bigger. maybe a TV w/ a built in camera? or maybe Apple TV w/ this Continuity Camera feature?

for myself i am just going to Zwift (indoor riding app) and i ideally need 2 screens, one for Zwift and one for the show or sports i want to watch.

i do workout w/ a trainer over Zoom and right now i have to keep moving my laptop around so my trainer can see me at the proper angles. maybe this would be good use case for that camera thing too.

i dont have an iphone so i cant do the continuity thing.

not sure how many have college going kids. here some scheme i discovered if you are trying to optimize credit card miles/points.

you cant normally pay to Northeastern tuition w/ a credit card domestically but you can if you use the intl payment portal Flywire. you have to pick some intl currency to pay with, you have to pay some service fee, you hopefully are not charged any foreign transaction fees by your credit card.

it is a a bit of work but given how much tuition is, it was the worth the effort and hassle to me.

some schools allow credit card payments with or without extra fees.
