when i was 6 i lived in Rio for 6 months since my dad was on an extended assignment. for some reason we just lived in hotels the whole time.
- 2 months on Copa Cabana
- 2 months on Ipanema
- 2 months at the Sheraton that had a private beach
we didnt have to go to school. we just took a bunch of school work from 1st or 2nd grade or whatever it was.
i still remember eating the best tropical fruit in my life and a month trip thru S America after our stay ended including trips to Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Machu Picchu, Mexico City, etc
People have gone nuts for the pink Stanley Starbucks Valentine's Day partnership mugs for some reason. They are retailing on the secondary market for hundreds of dollars.
Hearts in college .. many late nights instead of studying.
Bridge in grad school .. many bottles of Jack Daniels to go with it.
i started to learn how to play bridge more seriously the last few years in grad school. we started off playing regular rubber bridge at home and then transitioned to duplicate bridge. i had a steady partner and we would go play duplicate bridge at the local senior's club once a week.
we even went to a ACBL sanctioned tournament once in L'ville and i might have collected a quarter or half a master point.
it is an amazingly complex game and i can see how it takes years of practice to get good at it. ideally would like to find someone people to play w/ again.
In 2021, the NYT issued a report on the Trump family empire, including the Patriarch's tax-dodge schemes. The report won a Pulitzer and describes some of the stuff that Trump Org is in trouble with New York right now for the civil fraud case.
Trump sued NYT, his niece Mary Trump, and three NYT journalists. Not only did Trump lose his case - he was ordered in August to pay nearly $400k in defendant's legal fees thanks in part to sharpened New York anti-SLAPP laws. The news was highlighted today by one of the defendants who won. Suck it, traitorous leach
Like my mother-in-law who is terrible at coming up with reasonable offers in Monopoly, Speaker Johnson demands funding for 900 miles of Border Wall for support for Ukraine. Democrats tell him to go suck eggs.
