8-14 inches forecast for NYC area. lets hope we get something in that range. we are having a good proper throwback winter. it hasnt been this cold consistently nor snowed this much in quite a few years.
it used to be the norm (back in the day) and we have only been here for 25 yrs. i am sure the winters of the past were even more winter-y
Latest forecasts for DC are for about the same amount of snow, but they are starting to waffle a bit saying it may switch over to sleet/rain a little earlier than predicted before. I usually do my weekly longer run on the weekend but tomorrow the windchill is near zero and the snow will be here Sunday so I got it done this morning. It won’t be this cold here, but an indication of what’s to come is that the air temperature where my sister lives in NE Iowa was -19 this morning.
She and her husband have been in California, mainly LA, most of January. They’re due to fly home on Monday. Looks like they’re not in the snow zone for this storm so they may make it.
I need to change the oil on No 1's STI and No 3's WRX. No 1 goes with the Motul oil pictured in the post so I'm using that for both cars. He had a couple of weird glitches that were cleared up when using this oil so he keeps using it.
HSB's traitor daughter's WRX doesn't need an oil change yet.
I'm taking it out for short trips once or twice a week. Short trips meaning like 50 miles RT. I have 3 cars I rotate through with No 1's STi and my Acura. During the winter I don't really take the Miata out so I don't count that.
traitor daughter is applying to grad schools in physics. if they end up at Stanford. they would be 2x traitor. i wonder what status would be if they went to Cal.
all those schools are on the list. has not heard anything yet from them. she has been getting interviews at other good places ..
If she goes to Furd, disowned traitor daughter? Seriously though, I told my kids if they got in and went to Furd, that's fine, but don't EVER EVER root for them.
Craig Woodson had a fumble recovery and an INT last week. BTW, does it sting to see Brady with the Raiders? I suspect he’ll fail there, though, just like most who work under Mark Davis. Mendoza can’t save them.
Agreed. There are always teams willing to take a QB as their No. 1. That only makes sense if you uhave a good O line with some depth behind it. Otherwise your No.1 draft pick will be running for his life as a rookie.
A classic example was Jim Plunkett, the No. 1 pick of the 1971 draft. He was taken by the New England Patriots. In those days, the season was 14 games. In his first three seasons he was sacked 36, 39, and 37 times. His QB rating in those same seasons was 68.6, 45.7, and 65.8.
The 15th-ranked California women's tennis team seeks a berth in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, as the Golden Bears start dual-match action this weekend in Austin, Texas. If Cal beats the Bears, it faces either host and 17th-ranked Texas or Arizona for the right to advance to the national tournament in February. The four-team Texas tournament is one of 14 ITA Kickoff Weekends taking place around the country, with the 14 winners joining co-hosts Northwestern and Illinois at ITA national indoors.
California men's gymnastics will compete in its first away meet of the season this Saturday, heading to Stanford's Burnham Pavilion for the Stanford Open to meet Stanford and Ohio State in hopes of improving upon its solid season opener and qualifying individuals for the upcoming Winter Cup. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. PT, with a live stream and live scoring available on Virtius.
California women's rowing has announced its 2026 schedule, which features six regular-season competitions beginning at the end of February. The Golden Bears will race their entire regular season in the state of California before heading to the east coast for the postseason.
The California women's basketball team (11-9, 2-5 ACC) will begin a three-game homestand and start by looking to even the season series against Stanford when it hosts the annual Battle of the Bay at Haas Pavilion on Sunday at 3 p.m. PT.
This is the longest running series against any opponent for Cal, with this being the 106th all-time matchup between the two programs. Stanford owns an 82-23 series advantage, with Cal taking two of the last three meetings.
California women's gymnastics (5-2, 1-1 ACC) will host its home opener at Haas Pavilion this Saturday as the Golden Bears welcome the NC State Wolfpack (1-1, 1-0) to Berkeley at 4 p.m. PT. The conference dual meet will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra with live scoring available on Virtius.
California men's rowing has revealed its 2026 race schedule as the Golden Bears embark upon the milestone 150th season of men's crew at Cal. The Bears will contest all but one race in California this year, culminating with both the conference and national championships in Sacramento.

Wow. 19 below is nothing to mess with. Hope everyone in Iowa is staying warm and dry.

For my cars I use Mobil 1.
how is HSB's traitor daughter's WRX?
people driving it around hopefully ..

I should've put "Unconstitutional Govt stuff"

NFL conference championships this weekend.
Sun 300p ET - AFC Patriots @ Broncos
Sun 630p ET - NFC Rams @ Seahawks
i guess there is chance of Patriots-Seahawks rematch or an all-western US match up as well for Super Bowl 60
Anyone but the Patriots.
But the Pats’ starting safeties are Cal guys (Hawkins and Woodson), both of whom spent their entire college careers at Cal.
Doesn't matter. Brady fumbled!
Craig Woodson had a fumble recovery and an INT last week. BTW, does it sting to see Brady with the Raiders? I suspect he’ll fail there, though, just like most who work under Mark Davis. Mendoza can’t save them.
Raiders need new ownership, or at least owners who can hire bright guys for the front office. Mark Davis isn't that kind of owner.
2 of 4 possible Super Bowl matchups do not include the Patriots.
Broncos vs Rams
Broncos vs Seahawks
I would certainly be fine with either matchup. But in my prognostication league, the general consensus is Patriots vs. Seahawks.

Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, likely No. 1 pick, enters NFL draft
good for him .. but he doesnt seem like #1 draft material.

If the Raiders do draft him, I don't see him doing well.
There is always going to be a draft boost from being the best QB available. There are always desperate teams in need of a QB.
