The Eastside saw a number of folks be evacuated due to rising creeks, etc. I am on the Westside and fortunately haven't faced the same threat of flooding, though it rained steadily all day and my yard was under about an inch of standing water.
Shortly after talking with my brother last evening I got an email from him. He was making dinner on a camp stove by lantern light because their power went out. He’s up in the Sierra foothills.
Which reminds me, Mrs Slug's mom lost power in Citrus Heights yesterday afternoon. Not sure when it came back on, but I would imagine it was sometime yesterday. She's in SMUD territory.
We lost power very briefly in Berkeley. Just long enough to force us to reset the microwave clock.
Apparently people are disappointed as they are discovering that it’s difficult to watch pr0n on the new Apple goggles, seems like the sort of thing you’d find out before dropping that kind of money on them.
Also the videos that are starting to appear of jackasses using Tesla self “driving” mode while using their Apple goggles were probably predictable but I still think should be cause for those folks to be sent straight to jail.
Went to the Riviera Theater before the rains came and saw The Promised Land, an epic from Denmark set in the 1750’s starring Mads Mikkelsen as a retired military captain that seeks to establish a settlement for the King on the desolate heath.
Someone wake up Farhan and remind him he has once again failed to put a Major League-caliber product on the field.
The highlights of the Giants offseason:
1. Their overmatched accountant of a GM admitting that he stinks at his job by cutting ties with 3 of the biggest signings of his 5-year tenure (Haniger, DeSclafani, Stripling) in exchange for 13-starts worth of Robbie Ray coming back from TJ and a mid-tier prospect from the A’s.
2. Drastically overpaying for an average RP with high velocity and a history of arm/control problems who you plan to use in the rotation despite him failing in that role once already in his career.
3. Signing an OF with no elite traits and only a handful of AB’s v. Major League pitching out of the KBO who is rehabbing a major ankle injury.
Does he also overpay for Matt Chapman despite the fact that JD Davis had a better year at 1/3rd of the cost…or maybe 31 year-old Blake Snell, who has been an average, SP3 in 6 of his 8 big league seasons….we shall see.
The dwindling number of fans that still stump for this dork astounds me, Venerable Slug. I have no doubt that Farhan is constrained to some extent by ownership's frugality, and the sheer number of partners in the Giant's ownership group is an issue, as all are needed to sign off on transactions while also receiving a healthy profit check. That's why despite being the 5th most valuable franchise in the game, they continue to spend like a small market team.
But it's quite clear that this clown has zero feel for the game of baseball and that his career in the business should have topped out at running the Analytics Dept. for a ballclub and not baseball operations. Haniger, Disco and Stripling were literally the highlights of his acquisitions and were unmitigated disasters.

We had some rain in Berkeley. Not nearly as much in other places, I understand. Also, we had wind. Lots and lots of wind. Still ongoing this morning.
Yeah the wind has been no joke!
Indeed. I have heard from friends in Sonoma County that nearby trees have come down. Soggy soil and sustained high winds will do that, I suppose.
Shortly after talking with my brother last evening I got an email from him. He was making dinner on a camp stove by lantern light because their power went out. He’s up in the Sierra foothills.

Jimmy, I'm all on the #FireFarhan bandwagon. But Giants fans are going to look bitter in the near future...and for some time because of it.
