there is a lot of fun talk on the internet today about company logos

Why do AI company logos look like buttholes?

some fun reference to Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions

Did you know that my mother-in-law literally has a limited signed print of a Vonnegut butthole hanging in her apartment in Brooklyn? She's a weird one.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

that's amazing. i am sure there are a lot of interested people if she ever wanted to part with it!

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

this is a a few days old admittedly. i guess this is the new reality.

Supreme Court Clears Way for California Voting Map [NYT]

Courts have said it is legal to gerrymander based on party politics as opposed to race.

From the Desk of John Roberts:

Are Presidents kings? Yup

Is gerrymandering okay? Yup

Do people have rights? Yes* (see 18th century definition of "people")

Are you a fan of the Constitution? Lol. Wut?

Defending Beanpot champion Boston University is heading back to the championship game after defeating Northeastern in the shootout, 3-2.

Because younger child now goes to Northeastern, i have recently learned that the Boston Beanpot is a coveted college athletics achievement. 4 schools- NEU, Harvard, BU and BC - play each year for local bragging rights. the semis and finals are held @ TD Garden and tickets are apparently not cheap to come by.

SGBear's avatar

JFC, my wife said she would go to the Beanpot when BU made it to the finals. I just looked. $300/ticket. I wasn't going to tell her, but I guess since we do our OOC road thing, she deserves the option.

SGBear's avatar

Oh, it's this Monday. She won't make it back from France in time.

Newellbany's avatar

dodged a bullet there

SGBear's avatar

She was looking at apartments in Paris. My name is already written on a bigger bullet.

My Aunt lives in Belleville and my cousin lives in the 13th.

En quels arrondissements cherchez-vous?

Newellbany's avatar

ohhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiit

I figured this was ice hockey, but looked it up to make sure.

Such a great sport. Not sure why it's not more popular.

dcblue's avatar

There was not much spectator sports when I lived in Anchorage but the university hockey team was worth going to watch.

Newellbany's avatar

Did you go to the Great Alaskan Shootout, back when it was a major MBB pre-conference tournament?

(Cal won it in 2006!)

dcblue's avatar

I did a few times but it was around forty years ago so don’t have specific memories.

Newellbany's avatar

It's super fun to care again about other bubble teams. ESPN has Cal as the "first team out" today. So last night, I watched Ohio State, who they have as the "last team in." tOSU won, unfortunately.

Newellbany's avatar

IF YOU ARE IN THE BAY AREA, GO TO THE MBB GAME TOMORROW!!!!!!!!

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i think HAG and son(s) are going skiing for the weekend.

MoriBear's avatar

MBB Saturday, Northstar Sunday (thru Wednesday)

heyalumnigo's avatar

We did Northstar yesterday, doing Heavenly today, and Northstar tomorrow. .

Beware, snow mid-mountain is kinda thin. there are some caution sticks out to warn against dirt patches, towards the bottom of the green runs. The bottom of Homerun had some and the middle of Castle peak. It's worse than it was 2 weekends ago. We are thinking of skipping the Furd game on the 21st and coming up, but we'll see. They are talking about maybe 1 more storm but we'll see how much they actually get.

MoriBear's avatar

I’M GOING!!!

WHO ELSE WILL BE THERE?

I’ll be with a friend at Jupiter prior.

Pantheon - Netflix - 12+/19

still TBD on how much i like this sci-fi teenage anime show that i stumbled on.

pretty good first episode. was working out while watching.

Wiata78's avatar

I'm about to start the second season of Pantheon. I liked the first season a lot. Also, I thought that after the first episode of the first season, it got even better.

MoriBear's avatar

Finally started Nobody Wants This. Not very realistic, but quite funny.

Newellbany's avatar

Really enjoying the Righteous Gemstones, the HBO show that concluded last year. It's a Danny McBride vehicle, with John Goodman in an especially fun role as a televangelist.

MoriBear's avatar

I couldn’t get thru more than a few eps. Seems right up my alley, but…

Tennis seems to be the sport for women making $$ unless you are a Chinese American freestyle skier

Tennis star Coco Gauff tops the list, earning an estimated $33 million, followed by her peers Aryna Sabalenka ($30m) and Iga Swiatek ($25.1m) but then appears Eileen Gu. The leading trio are household sporting names, freestyle skier Gu is not, but her earnings? $23.1m.

Ah, the Anna Kournikova phenomenon

If y'all don't know who Ilona Maher is, she is a generational talent. She is the female equivalent of Jonah Lomu - size, speed, power, Hulk-like anger

Wiata78's avatar

Interesting. I didn't realize that she competes for China. Also, she's a Furd.

I’m neither pro nor anti Dodgers but I see they just dfad Anthony Banda.

Today’s big sports news in the DMV is the passing of Sonny Jurgenson.

Are ski jumpers enhancing their penises to fly further?

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7024688/2026/02/05/ski-jump-penis-enhancement-wada/

It's an aerodynamic thing.

Newellbany's avatar

This article has taken over discussion in my office right now. I slowly backed away...

Wiata78's avatar

I would have thought it’s NSFW. Guess I’m an old fuddy-duddy.

Newellbany's avatar

Me, after reading the article: "oh my"

Colleague: "what?"

Me: "Nothing... there's a Olympic ski jumping scandal."

Colleague: "what kind of scandal?"

Me: "Um...I can't talk about it."

Colleague: "why not?"

Me: "I just can't talk about it."

And everyone furiously googles, laughs out loud, and talks about it while I slowly back away.

MoriBear's avatar

Thanks for the intel!

I was there for a few days a new year. Good coverage and some light snowfall. But seems it’s been dry since then. Supposed to be a bit of snow this coming week.

Will be up again in a month, so hopefully there’ll be more by then.

heyalumnigo's avatar

We're probably going to be coming up the 21st but may just do Heavenly depending on how much snow Northstar gets. No 3 is gone for the 1st couple of weeks in March and I'll be gone for about 10 days until around the 25th so our only chance would be the last weekend in March, which probably will not be possible.

MoriBear's avatar

I hate the reply function on phone. This is supposed to be a reply to HAG’s snow report.

And…on BART heading to the game :-)

Go, Bears!!!

Up With People. Gad, hadn't thought about that in a long while. Ok, I thought it was too sappy for my taste back then and confess I never had seen the whole thing. Would just exposed to the main song.

Had a coworker years back who said he was in some traveling group for that show in the midwest. Before I could reply he exclaimed....I know, I know..

Newellbany's avatar

Halftime Show

I know a dude who was part of Up with People when they were the halftime show. The last time they did it was 1986, so it must have been then or he'd have been too young.

It's funny to think about such quaint halftime shows, now that they're such enormous productions. The history on that is that the NFL was losing eyeballs to halftime sideshows on other channels, like the Beavis and Butthead halftime show on MTV and the Lingerie Bowl. So they had to step up their game. Competition at work, I suppose.

Newellbany's avatar

The Super Bowl is pretty late here on the east coast. At the party I go to, maybe 75 people are there for the first half, and many of them have a loose interest in the game. But they ALL watch the halftime show.

Then all the moms, all the kids, and two thirds of the dads go home and it's up to me, the host, and his brother to finish the keg.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

sounds about the same as in these parts.

dcblue's avatar

I’m kind of the flip side of those folks. I have an interest in the game but don’t really care about the ads or the halftime show. Maybe something to do with being old.
