Work paid for the work trip and I found the cheapest 1 way on United (60ish) LAX to SFO so that worked out well. End of last year I didn't think I was close but I looked at the end of Oct and needed 4 additional segments. So I changed my work flight to go from Nashville to Budapest (through EWR) and I bought a 1 way to Nashville to see No 2. Then I did a 6 hour trip to LA for like 90 total. I definitely won't make it this year so I'm not even going to try. It was good while it lasted.
That's nice when you can add a segment here and there for longer trips.
I didn't fly much last year, had only 10 segments until September so I didn't care, but all the sudden flew 21 segments Oct -Dec so I was short 5 segments for 36 to reach Platinum with United.
